Overview

The Quanta Arts Foundation (廣藝基金會) is a Taiwanese non-profit cultural foundation founded in 2010 by Barry Lam, chairman of Quanta Computer. It grew out of a performance hall that Lam installed in the heart of Quanta's newly built headquarters in Guishan, Taoyuan, and it operates that venue, the Guangyi Hall (廣藝廳), as a stage for both Quanta employees and the wider public. The foundation's stated mission is to promote and elevate Chinese-language performing arts, to develop contemporary art that fuses technology and performance, and to foster exchange among Chinese-speaking communities across the Taiwan Strait and worldwide. The foundation is led by executive director Yang Chung-heng (楊忠衡), a music critic, record producer, and musical-theatre librettist. Its board has included major figures from Taiwan's arts world, such as percussionist Ju Tzong-ching, choreographer Lin Hwai-min, and theatre director Stan Lai. Under Yang's leadership the foundation has launched a series of flagship programmes: the Guangyi Philharmonic Orchestra project, the Cross-Strait Little Theatre Arts Festival, the Guangyi Digital Performing Arts Festival, the Cloud Stage Awards (雲舞台獎) for online performing-arts programming, and the Performing Arts Golden Creative Award (表演藝術金創獎), established in 2019. In recent years the foundation has moved toward technology-driven experimentation, notably the Aizart (愛札特) AI Music New Voices programme, which invites creators to explore human–machine co-creation and co-performance, and the Aizart Spark showcase at the Guangyi Hall. It also partners with the Taiwan Creative Content Agency (文策院) on venture-style accompaniment for award-winning stage works, and it has hosted mainland Chinese productions such as the Beijing Quju Opera's adaptation of Lao She's "This Life of Mine" in Taipei. The foundation positions itself as a bridge between Quanta's corporate culture and the performing arts, aiming for what it calls "cultural common wealth" through digital media and live performance.

History

The Quanta Arts Foundation traces its origins to 2009, when Barry Lam, chairman of Quanta Computer, installed a mid-sized performance hall in the heart of the company's newly completed headquarters. The foundation itself was established in January 2010, with Lam inviting leading arts figures — including percussionist Ju Tzong-ching, choreographer Lin Hwai-min, ethnomusicologist Lin Ku-fang, violinist Hu Nai-yuan, music educator Liu Chu-wei, and theatre director Stan Lai — to serve as board members, and appointing music critic and producer Yang Chung-heng as executive director. Its stated purpose was to promote Chinese-language performing arts and to explore the fusion of technology and art, an idea captured in its slogan of "transcendent artistic ideas" (超藝念). In its first decade the foundation ran three successive three-year plans covering foundation-building, growth, and development. It created the Guangyi Philharmonic Orchestra project, the Cross-Strait Little Theatre Arts Festival, and the Guangyi Digital Performing Arts Festival, and it built direct links with performing-arts communities in Taiwan, mainland China, and elsewhere in Asia. In 2019 it established the Performing Arts Golden Creative Award (表演藝術金創獎) to recognize and support new stage works, and it marked its tenth year with a stated ambition to act as a solutions provider for the sector, organizing think tanks, new commissioning and subsidy schemes, and Taiwan's first performing-arts pitch event. In the 2020s the foundation expanded into digital and online formats. The Cloud Stage Awards (雲舞台獎), an annual prize for online performing-arts programming, held its third edition in late 2025, with an online film festival running in November. The foundation also deepened its collaboration with the Taiwan Creative Content Agency (文策院) through a venture-style accompaniment programme that shepherds Golden Creative Award winners from script readings to full productions; the sixth edition's silver winner, Haoxiao Theatre's "Don't Call Me Master," premiered in Taipei in 2026. Alongside this, the foundation launched Aizart (愛札特), an AI music new-voices programme inviting creators to experiment with human–machine co-creation and co-performance, culminating in the Aizart Spark showcase at Guangyi Hall. It has also hosted mainland Chinese productions in Taiwan, including the Beijing Quju Opera's "This Life of Mine" in 2025.
