QAD
Company providing ERP software for manufacturing.
Last updated August 31, 2026
Overview
QAD Redzone is a manufacturing-software company whose origins date to QAD, founded in 1979 by Pamela Lopker and Karl Lopker. The company was created after the founders encountered difficulty finding software suitable for operating a sandal and leather-goods business. That origin shaped QAD's long-term specialization in manufacturing rather than general-purpose enterprise software. Its products have historically centered on enterprise resource planning, supply-chain management, quality, asset management, transportation, foreign-trade-zone administration, and related operational processes. QAD became an international enterprise-software provider and completed an initial public offering in August 1997, listing on Nasdaq under the symbol QADI. Pamela Lopker became a prominent figure in enterprise technology and manufacturing entrepreneurship, receiving recognition including Ernst & Young Entrepreneur of the Year and induction into the Women in Technology Hall of Fame. Karl Lopker served as chief executive officer after leaving Deckers in 1982, while the couple continued to build QAD's manufacturing focus. The business expanded through a series of acquisitions. These added manufacturing-oriented customer relationship management, transportation management, enterprise asset management, product information management, demand and supply planning, quality management, supplier-management, foreign-trade-zone, and digital-commerce capabilities. In 2021, Thoma Bravo acquired QAD in a transaction reported at approximately $2 billion, taking the company private. QAD subsequently pursued a broader strategy intended to move manufacturers from a traditional system of record toward a system of action, linking enterprise applications with real-time operational execution. The company acquired LiveJourney in 2022, Redzone in 2023, and Kavida.ai in 2025, while also integrating capabilities from earlier acquisitions such as Allocation Network, Foreign Trade Zone Corporation, and WebJaguar. Redzone added a connected-workforce platform focused on frontline manufacturing teams, including production visibility, digital quality and compliance, maintenance and reliability, and workforce learning. In 2025, the combined operation was presented as QAD Redzone, with QAD Adaptive ERP, Redzone, and ChampionAI forming its principal product architecture. QAD Adaptive ERP is a cloud-based ERP platform designed for sectors such as automotive, life sciences, consumer products, food and beverage, and high-tech and industrial equipment. Redzone extends the offering into the factory and frontline workforce, while ChampionAI is positioned as an artificial-intelligence layer spanning enterprise and shop-floor processes. Sanjay Brahmawar became chief executive officer in March 2025, succeeding Anton Chilton. The company is privately held and headquartered in Miami, Florida.
History
QAD's history began in 1979, when Pamela Lopker and Karl Lopker established the company to develop manufacturing software for a sandal and leather-goods business associated with Karl Lopker. The founders had difficulty finding suitable software for the operation, leading them to create their own systems. Karl Lopker had previously co-founded the sandal maker Deckers while studying at the University of California, Santa Barbara. He left Deckers in 1982 to join QAD full time as chief executive officer. Together, the Lopkers developed QAD around the needs of manufacturers and expanded its software beyond the original business context. QAD grew into an international enterprise-software provider focused on manufacturing resource planning and related operational processes. Its expansion included both organic product development and acquisitions. In 2006, QAD acquired Bisgen, adding manufacturing-oriented customer relationship management, and acquired Precision Software and FBO Systems, adding transportation-management and enterprise-asset-management capabilities. In 2008 it acquired the assets of FullTilt Solutions, a product-information-management provider. In 2012, QAD acquired DynaSys, which supplied collaborative demand and supply-chain planning software, and CEBOS, a quality-management and management-system software and services provider. QAD later acquired PT Iris Sistem Inforindo in 2018, strengthening its distribution and systems-integration presence in Indonesia and surrounding South Asian markets. The company became publicly traded in August 1997 through an initial public offering on Nasdaq under the symbol QADI. Pamela Lopker gained recognition as a woman entrepreneur in enterprise technology and as an advocate associated with American manufacturing. QAD continued operating as a public company until its acquisition by the private-equity firm Thoma Bravo in 2021. Before that transaction, QAD had expanded its portfolio through acquisitions of Allocation Network, a Munich-based strategic-sourcing and supplier-management provider, and Foreign Trade Zone Corporation, a cloud foreign-trade-zone software and consulting company. It also acquired WebJaguar in 2021. Thoma Bravo completed the acquisition in November 2021 in a transaction reported at approximately $2 billion, after which QAD became privately held. Following the change in ownership, QAD pursued a strategy that connected traditional enterprise systems with real-time operational execution. The company described this shift as a move from a system of record to a system of action. In 2022, it acquired LiveJourney, the operating name of French process-intelligence and process-mining provider Your Data Consulting SAS. That technology later supported the company's emphasis on data analysis and artificial intelligence. QAD also sold its former headquarters to the University of California in 2022 and established its headquarters in Miami, Florida. In 2023, QAD acquired Redzone, a connected-workforce platform for manufacturers. Redzone brought the company closer to frontline factory operations through production dashboards, digital quality and compliance workflows, maintenance and reliability tools, and workforce learning. QAD purchased Phenix Software in 2024 and Kavida Technologies, the developer of Kavida.ai, in 2025. Kavida.ai added agentic-AI capabilities oriented toward industrial procurement. These transactions contributed to the combined QAD Redzone architecture, which consists principally of QAD Adaptive ERP, the Redzone connected-workforce platform, and ChampionAI. In March 2025, Sanjay Brahmawar became CEO, succeeding Anton Chilton, who had led the company from 2018. The company currently presents itself as a cloud software provider for manufacturers in industries including automotive, life sciences, consumer products, food and beverage, and high-tech and industrial equipment. Its stated direction is to embed artificial intelligence and operational intelligence into both enterprise and frontline manufacturing processes.
