KPI was established on 3 February 1983 when Kuwait Petroleum Corporation (KPC) acquired most of Gulf Oil's refining and marketing operations in Western Europe, in addition to BP's Danish operations. The company established its headquarters in London to manage these assets and launched its brand, Q8, in 1986. Q8 is the international refining and marketing arm of Kuwait Petroleum Corporation, focusing on refining and marketing fuel, lubricants, and other petroleum derivatives globally. Q8 operates a network of more than 3500 branded service stations across Europe and Vietnam, and has three joint venture refineries in Italy, Vietnam, and Oman.
