Overview

PVM is a specialist energy and commodities brokerage brand, established in 1971 in New York to broker oil products. It is now part of the TP ICAP Group, alongside market-leading brands Tullett Prebon and ICAP, forming what the company describes as the world's largest energy and commodities broker. PVM is widely recognised as the world's leading broker of oil instruments. The firm's core business covers Over the Counter (OTC) broking of swaps, forwards and physical crude oil and refined products, as well as on-exchange broking of WTI, Brent and Gasoil futures contracts. On a daily basis, PVM's brokers handle on average more than 100 million barrels of OTC and futures volume. Beyond broking, PVM provides consultancy, analysis, software, and training services to its clients. PVM serves a broad institutional client base including major oil companies, independent refiners and producers, shipping companies, government agencies, trading houses, banks, and investment funds. The company employs more than 180 professionals drawn from all parts of the oil industry, maintaining continuous open-line contact via voice and electronic channels to ensure full international coverage of bids, offers and the latest deals. PVM has offices in London, Vienna, New York, Houston and Singapore, giving it a global footprint across the major oil trading hubs. Its crude oil broking team is composed of professionals from oil, shipping, and futures backgrounds, and the combination of futures and OTC broking teams provides customers with a single point of access to up-to-date information and prices from both markets. This distinct setup drives PVM's standing as the leading execution-only broker to the trade on the ICE Futures Exchange. The petroleum products group, based in London and Singapore, covers the full range of refined products including propane, butane, naphtha, gasoline, jet fuel, gas oil and fuel oil. PVM is distinct in the market by continuing to have a strong presence in the physical products market, providing rare insight into the underlying drivers of the swaps market. The company also publishes daily oil fundamentals reports and offers data services.

History

PVM was established in 1971 in New York to broker oil products. From its origins as an oil products broker, the company grew into a global operation with offices in London, Vienna, New York, Houston and Singapore. Over more than three decades, PVM has been the world's leading crude oil broker and has been heavily involved in the development of all the commodity crude oil contracts, from Saudi Light through Brent/Ninian/Forties (BNF) to the current Brent and Dubai contracts. The contract specifications for IPE Brent (now the ICE Brent futures contract) and OTC 15-day Brent (forerunner of the 21-day BFO (Brent, Forties Oseberg)) were strongly influenced by PVM. Brent is now the global crude oil marker. PVM is now part of the TP ICAP Group. Together with market-leading brands Tullett Prebon and ICAP, it forms what the company describes as the world's largest energy and commodities broker. The company employs more than 180 professionals drawn from all parts of the oil industry, and on a daily basis its brokers handle on average more than 100 million barrels of OTC and futures volume. PVM's activities cover OTC broking of swaps, forwards and physical crude oil and refined products, and on exchange it covers WTI, Brent and Gasoil futures contracts. In addition to broking, PVM provides consultancy, analysis, software, and training services.
