Overview

Przedsiębiorstwo Komunikacji Samochodowej w Łukowie S.A. (commonly PKS Łuków) is a Polish passenger road-transport company headquartered at ul. Piłsudskiego 29 in Łuków, in the Lublin Voivodeship. It was established on 1 October 1967, when it became independent from the PKS branch in Lublin. The company operates a fleet of 98 buses and provides scheduled coach and bus services linking Łuków with towns such as Garwolin, Kock, Lubartów, Lublin, Siedlce, Stoczek Łukowski, Radzyń Podlaski, Warsaw and Żelechów, as well as numerous local routes across Łuków, Ryki, Radzyń, Garwolin and Siedlce counties. It also runs municipal public transport in Łuków, including the free seasonal line Ł1 launched on 19 June 2021. Beyond scheduled passenger transport, PKS Łuków S.A. offers bus rental, a vehicle wash, a fuel station and tachograph services, and it maintains the PKS bus station (dworzec PKS) in Łuków. In 2010 the company was taken over by Łuków County, making it a county-owned joint-stock company. Since 2025 Jarosław Siedlanowski has served as its president. The company has pursued European Union funding for low-emission bus fleet modernisation and public-transport infrastructure under the European Funds programme. As a regional PKS operator, PKS Łuków is part of the network of former state road-transport enterprises in Poland that were decentralised and commercialised after 1989. Its identity combines intercity coach services with local commuter and municipal routes, and it remains an important mobility provider for the Łuków area and neighbouring counties.

History

Przedsiębiorstwo Komunikacji Samochodowej w Łukowie S.A. was formed on 1 October 1967, when it gained independence from the PKS branch in Lublin. Like other Polish PKS (Przedsiębiorstwo Komunikacji Samochodowej) enterprises, it was created within the state-run road-transport system that served passengers across the country during the socialist era. The company established its base in Łuków at ul. Piłsudskiego 29, where its headquarters and bus station remain. After the political and economic transformation of 1989, Poland's PKS network was restructured, and many regional operators were commercialised and later privatised or taken over by local governments. In 2010 PKS Łuków was taken over by Łuków County (powiat łukowski), becoming a county-owned joint-stock company. This ownership model is common among surviving PKS firms, which often serve areas where commercial operators would not maintain unprofitable routes. Over the decades the company built a route network centred on Łuków, with connections to Garwolin, Kock, Lubartów, Lublin, Siedlce, Stoczek Łukowski, Radzyń Podlaski, Warsaw and Żelechów, plus numerous local services in Łuków, Ryki, Radzyń, Garwolin and Siedlce counties. It operates a fleet of 98 buses. In addition to scheduled transport, it diversified into bus rental, a vehicle wash, a fuel station and tachograph services. In 2021 the company expanded into municipal transport, launching the free seasonal line Ł1 on 19 June 2021 as a pilot service. The route connects residential districts such as Mickiewicza (Nowy Łuków II), Sienkiewicza, Unitów Podlaskich, Śródmieście, Chącińskiego, Klimeckiego, Al. Kościuszki, kpt. Ostoi and Wiatraki with the Zimna Woda reservoir recreation area. The line runs daily in summer. In the 2020s the company has sought European Union funding for modernisation. Its official website describes a project titled “Zakup oraz modernizacja niskoemisyjnego taboru autobusowego wraz z niezbędną infrastrukturą oraz rozbudowa i przebudowa infrastruktury transportu publicznego” (Purchase and modernisation of low-emission bus fleet with necessary infrastructure and expansion and reconstruction of public transport infrastructure), project no. FELU.05.02-IZ.00-0007/26, implemented under Action 5.2 Low-emission urban transport within Integrated Territorial Investments, Priority V “Sustainable urban mobility” of the European Funds programme. Since 2025 Jarosław Siedlanowski has been president of the company.
