Overview
Pryluchanka factory (Фабрика «Прилучанка») is a Ukrainian light-industry manufacturer based in Pryluky, Chernihiv Oblast, roughly 135 km from Kyiv and 190 km from Chernihiv. It is described by its own materials and by Ukrainian reference sources as one of the oldest and largest light-industry enterprises in the city. Its product range centres on home textiles — bed linen, pillowcases, sheets, pillows, blankets, mattress covers and mattresses — alongside outerwear, knitwear, workwear and embroidered and souvenir goods. The enterprise traces its history to 1929, when the Ichyna sewing-and-embroidery factory was merged into the Pryluky artel «Суспільство». Through the Soviet period it operated under several names, including the artel named after 5 December and, from 1960, the Factory of Artistic Products named after 5 December. It moved to a newly built facility in 1984. After Ukrainian independence it was reorganised as the open joint-stock company «Прилучанка» in 1995 and became a private enterprise in 2004. Today the factory sells through its own online catalogue at priluchanka.ua, offering bed linen in fabrics such as byaz (coarse calico), ranforce, satin, poplin, mitkal and flannel, as well as pillows, blankets, mattresses, electric underblankets, workwear, knitwear, jeans and trousers, nappies, towels, napkins and tablecloths. It also provides sewing services: bed linen, workwear, souvenir products such as flags and pennants, outerwear, machine and hand embroidery, leather and heavy-fabric goods, and printing of designs and logos on fabrics. The factory has supplied major Ukrainian department stores in Kyiv (TsUM, «Ukraina», «Dniprovskyi», «Darnytsia») and in Chernihiv, Dnipro, Sumy, Kremenchuk, Novhorod-Siverskyi and Berdychiv, as well as the regional consumer-cooperative retail network in Chernihiv Oblast. Institutional customers have included the State Committee for Border Protection of Ukraine, the Ministry of Defence of Ukraine and the Ministry of Economy. It uses certified cotton fabrics from leading producers in Ukraine, Turkey, China and Pakistan. The company participates in trade fairs and exhibitions; at the «Chumatskyi Shliakh 2001» fair in Kremenchuk its products received a certificate «For the preservation of national colour». It maintains a presence on Facebook and Instagram.
History
The history of Pryluchanka factory begins in 1929, when the Ichyna factory for sewing and embroidered goods was merged into the Pryluky artel «Суспільство». By 1931 the artel's output consisted of embroidered and woven goods, and it also included the Dihtiarivka weaving workshop. Almost all products were exported. In 1936 the artel produced national costumes for the international exhibition in Paris and employed 585 people. Before the German-Soviet war (1941–1945), its production workshop was located at No. 5 Vokzalna Street. In 1946 the enterprise produced tablecloths, artistically embroidered men's and women's shirts, and rushnyky (ritual towels). Only 13 people worked in the workshop, while 178 others worked from home; home-based brigades were organised in the villages of Polonky, Udaitsi and others. In 1954 the enterprise was renamed the artel of artistic products named after «5 December». For the celebration of the 300th anniversary of the Pereiaslav Council (1954), the artel fulfilled an order for the sewing and artistic silk embroidery of men's chumachka shirts and women's blouses based on old patterns. In 1957 it completed an order for the sewing and embroidery of 150 silk Hutsul shirts for participants of the 6th World Festival of Youth and Students. In 1960 the artel was reorganised into the Factory of Artistic Products named after «5 December». It was located at No. 148 Kyivska Street (the former fire station), and from 1984 in a newly built building at No. 62 Kostiantynivska Street. The factory's assortment included dozens of product types, in particular bed linen, national costumes, rushnyky and shirts. From 1995 the factory became the open joint-stock company «Прилучанка», and from 2004 a private enterprise. The product range expanded significantly: bed linen, blankets, mattresses, pillows, outerwear, workwear, knitwear, machine embroidery and more. It is located at No. 35 Vokzalna Street. The factory has supplied permanent customers including department stores in Kyiv (TsUM, «Ukraina», «Dniprovskyi», «Darnytsia») and in Chernihiv, Dnipro, Sumy, Kremenchuk, Novhorod-Siverskyi and Berdychiv, as well as the district consumer-cooperative store network in Chernihiv Oblast. Institutional customers have included the State Committee for Border Protection of Ukraine, the Ministry of Defence of Ukraine and the Ministry of Economy. The factory participates in exhibitions and fairs; at the «Chumatskyi Shliakh 2001» fair held in Kremenchuk in April 2001, its products were awarded a certificate «For the preservation of national colour». In 2012 it opened an online store for extra-class bed linen, and it maintains a presence on Facebook and Instagram.
