Progress Agro (ГК «Прогресс Агро») is a major Russian agricultural holding company headquartered in Ust-Labinsk, Krasnodar Krai. It was formally established in March 2019 through the reorganization of agricultural assets that had previously belonged to Oleg Deripaska's agroholding Kuban. History
The history of Progress Agro begins in the early 2000s, when Russian industrialist and public figure Oleg Deripaska, a native of Ust-Labinsk district, created an agricultural holding on the basis of several former collective farms, which became one of the agricultural leaders of southern Russia. Deripaska laid the foundation of the agroholding on a strategy of long-term planning based on continuous improvement and investment in production and scientific research. From 2002 to 2022, the Progress Agro group increased its land bank three and a half times to 134,000 hectares, united more than 20 enterprises, and purchased over 3,000 units of agricultural machinery. Since 2007, all production processes of the company have been built on the Japanese philosophy of continuous improvement (kaizen), developed at Toyota plants. In the second half of the 2010s, the agroholding implemented several large investment projects, introduced new methods of lean land use, and opened a retail chain under its own brand «Моя Станица» (My Stanitsa). At the same time, a powerful scientific and technical base was created, which allowed it to be the first in Russia to develop and implement advanced practices and technologies in crop production and animal husbandry. In 2018, Deripaska sold his agricultural business after the US Treasury imposed personal sanctions on him. As a result of reorganization, in March 2019 the Progress Agro group of companies was formed. It included: crop and livestock companies AO Rassvet, AO AF Mir, Kolkhoz Progress, and the Voskhod horse stud; elevator facilities AO Korenovsky Elevator, Yuzhny Melnik, and OOO Elevator; processing facilities OOO Yuzhny Myasokombinat and AO Sugar Plant Svoboda. In April 2020, the Progress Agro group was included in the industry list of systemically important enterprises of the agro-industrial complex. As of the end of 2021, Progress Agro included the crop and livestock enterprise Rassvet, the Yuzhny meat processing plant, the Svoboda sugar plant, and a polypropylene packaging plant. The land fund of Progress Agro exceeds 110,000 hectares. In 2019, the revenue of the Progress Agro group was 11.2 billion rubles, and in 2020 it was 11.5 billion rubles. The company continues to develop in the areas of genetics, deep grain processing, and digitalization of processes. It was the first in Russia to develop and implement a project for embryo transplantation of Holstein cows, which increased the profitability of dairy farming by 30%. Its breeders annually develop new high-yielding seed varieties for various climatic zones. The group includes 10 dairy farms, 2 pig complexes for 52,000 and 25,000 head, a meat processing plant, the Svoboda sugar plant, 2 elevators with a total simultaneous storage capacity of over 260,000 tons, 3 modern seed plants, a multifunctional service center for maintenance and repair of agricultural machinery, the Voskhod horse stud breeding English Thoroughbred horses, and a polypropylene packaging plant.
