Progettomondo

Progettomondo is an Italian ETS (Ente del Terzo Settore) founded in 1966 with the commitment to countering different forms of poverty and inequality globally. Its work began in Latin America, and it now also operates in North Africa, Sub-Saharan Africa and the Middle East, while in Italy and Europe it promotes Global Citizenship Education and mobilisation on climate change, intercultural dialogue and anti-discrimination. Its main office is in Verona, with representation offices in all countries of intervention and territorial groups in several Italian regions. It is a promoter and active member of networks including FOCSIV and AOI, and reports over 650 projects in 27 countries involving more than 2,000 operators and volunteers.

Progettomondo was officially born in Rome in January 1966 as MLAL, Movimento Laici America Latina, as an offshoot of Ceial, now Cum (Centro Unitario Missionario). Its objective was to offer a support network to lay volunteers engaged in Latin America and to foster solidarity with Latin American peoples in Italy. Its first Statute dates to 1972, making Progettomondo a true and autonomous subject in the elaboration of development cooperation projects. Over time, more than one amendment was made to the Statute: the Statute of 21 April 2007 introduced a new governance system, involved new subjects and started the process for legal recognition; on 6 May 2012, further statutory changes recognised greater participation of the territorial representation of ProgettoMondo Mlal; and the 2022 statute definitively sanctioned the transition to the new name 'Progettomondo – Ente del Terzo Settore'. The organisation states it has surpassed 60 years of existence and has involved more than 2,000 operators, staff and volunteers in over 650 projects across 27 countries.
