The official website presents Privatbrauerei Jacob Stauder as a Familienbrauerei (family brewery) since 1867. Its history page describes the brewery as standing for characterful beer brewed with tradition, experience and innovation in the heart of the Ruhr area, and says it continually invests in modern brewing technology not to replace tradition but to continue it at the highest level. According to that page, the fifth generation took over with Dr. Claus Stauder and Rolf Stauder, the eldest sons of Dr. Hans-Jacob Stauder, under whose leadership the Essen 'Kumpelbier' developed into a nationally known brand affectionately called 'Die kleine Persönlichkeit'. In the 1950s–1970s Stauder modernized its facilities and invested in filling technology and logistics, and Stauder Pils became a fixture of everyday life for many people in the Ruhr area. Since 2005 the cousins Dr. Thomas Stauder and Axel Stauder have led the family business, which the page says works with over 145 employees, focuses on quality and personal customer contact, and remains independent in a time of globalization and corporate takeovers.
