Overview

Prista hut (Хижа Приста) is a tourist lodge located in the western Prista park, about 6 km from the city of Ruse, Bulgaria, on the road to Byala. It sits roughly 300 m from the Danube River at an altitude of about 98 m, built among an acacia grove. The lodge is operated by the Tourist Society Prista (Туристическо дружество „Приста“), a non-profit association based in Ruse that is one of the oldest and largest tourist organisations in the region. The current four-storey building was constructed by Ruse tourists in 1945 on the site of an older hut. It offers 132 beds in rooms with 2, 4, 5 and 7 beds, as well as two-bed apartments; double rooms and apartments have private bathrooms, while other rooms share floor-level facilities. In summer the hut adds 27 bungalows with 2, 3 and 6 beds. Guests have access to a 200-seat restaurant and a café-aperitif, a parking area, and nearby football and volleyball courts. The surrounding area supports outings, hiking, cycling, swimming and fishing, and in winter there are convenient slopes for skiing. Prista hut serves as a base for exploring nearby landmarks such as the Zahari Stoyanov House-Museum, the Baba Tonka House-Museum, the Monument of Freedom, the Bridge of Friendship and the Lipnik forest park. It is reachable from Ruse by bus lines No. 6 and 16. The lodge is part of the wider activity of the Tourist Society Prista, which organises clubs for mountaineers, speleology, water tourism, rock climbing and alpinism, veteran tourists and a tourist choir, and maintains other huts including Tazha, Alpinist, Zdravec and Minzuhar.

History

Prista hut is closely tied to the organised tourist movement in Ruse, which the Tourist Society Prista describes as spanning 117 years. The society itself was founded in 1957, but it is the successor of the tourist society "Dunav", established in 1908. As the largest and oldest tourist society in the region, Prista unites tourism and nature lovers from Ruse across all age and social groups. The hut was built by Ruse tourists in 1945. The present four-storey building stands on the site of the older hut. Over time it developed into a substantial lodge with 132 beds in rooms of 2, 4, 5 and 7 beds and two-bed apartments, plus 27 bungalows in summer, a 200-seat restaurant and a café-aperitif. The area around the hut was landscaped and equipped with a sports ground. The lodge is part of the broader infrastructure of the Tourist Society Prista, which also lists huts Tazha, Alpinist, Zdravec and Minzuhar among its facilities. The society's stated goals include supporting social tourism, developing all types of tourism and tourist sports — water, cycling, skiing, alpinism, sport climbing, orienteering and speleology — attracting pupils, students and people of all ages, and promoting environmental culture and nature conservation. Its management board consists of 11 people, with Sasho Popov as chairman and Karel Marinovich as executive secretary.
