History
The companies of Prinzhorn Group have a long tradition. In 1853 Wilhelm Hamburger founded a papermill (W. Hamburger) in Pitten, Austria. In 1866 Anton Mosburger founded a corrugated plant in Vienna, Austria, and in 1912 Johann Rieger founded a papermill in Trostberg, Germany. W. Hamburger acquired Mosburger in 1959, and in 1972 Thomas Prinzhorn took over the management of W. Hamburger as CEO. In 1989 the Rieger family sold their company to W. Hamburger. In 1990 Mosburger acquired 40% of Dunapack shares in Hungary and fully took over in 1995, which triggered the expansion to Eastern Europe; Mosburger fully acquired Dunapack in 1995. Hamburger Recycling Group was founded in 2007 to collect secondary raw materials and provide the papermills with waste paper. In 2013 Dentaş Ambalaj was acquired in Türkiye and Cord Prinzhorn was appointed as CEO. A newly established Management Board formed by three divisional managing directors and CFO was created in 2021. Prinzhorn Group stepped into Italy in 2023, and in 2024 Gerald Prinzhorn joined the Group as CEO.
