Prestar Resources Berhad (PRB) is a Malaysian investment holding company whose subsidiaries and associates are principally engaged in steel processing and the manufacturing of steel products. Incorporated on 12 July 1984 under the name Prestar Industries Sdn Bhd, the company began manufacturing activities in 1984 with products such as wheelbarrows, hand trucks, castors and platform trucks. It was converted into a public limited company on 27 June 1994 and successfully listed in 1995. After listing, PRB diversified and moved upstream into the reprocessing of steel mother coils into slitted coils and sheets through a coil center, supplying the automotive, electrical and electronic industries. This coil center is a joint venture between PRB and POSCO, one of the world's largest steel mills from Korea. The group also expanded into manufacturing carbon steel pipes and hollow sections, steel highway guardrails, steel flat bars, steel purlins, and steel shelving and racking for storage. Today Prestar Group operates factories in Selangor and Penang, Malaysia, and organizes its business into three main units: a steel processing unit, a product manufacturing unit, and a product distribution unit. The steel processing unit offers hot-rolled steel, hot-rolled pickle and oiled steel plates, cold-rolled steel, galvanized and galvannealed steel, electro-galvanized steel, electrical and silicon steel, stainless steel, aluminized steel, PosMAC steel, pre-coated steel, tailored welded blanks, and services such as laser welding, reshearing, shearing and slitting. The product manufacturing unit produces round, oval, square and rectangular tubes, hollow sections, cold-drawn tubes, carbon steel mechanical tubes, carbon steel structural pipes, flat steel sheets, furniture steel tubes, slit coils, cut-to-size steel sheets, steel pipes, steel plates and sheets, flat and square bars, expanded metal, checkered plate and C purlins, as well as wheelbarrows, platform hand trucks, and a wide range of racking and shelving systems including selective pallet racking, double deep racking, very narrow aisle racking, drive-in racking, structural steel platforms, cantilever racking, multi-tier racking, long-span shelving, boltless shelving, shuttle racking, automated storage and retrieval systems, carton flow, pallet flow, cart push back, and guardrails and handrails, plus hot dip galvanizing and powder coating services. The product distribution unit supplies builder's hardware and tools, material handling equipment, storage and racking systems, warehouse equipment and forklifts, personal protective equipment, MRO chemicals, square and rectangular hollow sections, window pipes, heavy sections, flat bars and plates, furniture pipes, black and G.I. pipes, and MS channels and angle bars. The company positions itself as a partner in flat steel, offering a variety of high-quality products and services.
