Overview

Powerland AG is a German holding company for a Chinese manufacturer of leather and textile goods, founded in 2003 as Powerland Fujian. The company initially produced textiles before moving into synthetic leather goods in 2005 and luxury women's handbags in 2007. Its luxury products are sold under the Powerland brand through over 110 own stores and sales points exclusively in China, targeting the growing Chinese middle class. Lower-priced products, including sports, leisure, and laptop bags, are sold under the Sotto brand to wholesalers, department stores, and supermarkets, both in China and internationally. The company operates from two locations in southeast China: Fujian, where design and marketing for luxury products are based, and Guangzhou, where Sotto products are manufactured and distributed. Powerland AG was listed on the Frankfurt Stock Exchange from 2011 until its delisting in 2015, and its shares continued to trade on the Hamburg Stock Exchange until the end of 2017. The founder, Shunyuan Guo, holds more than 60% of shares through Guo GmbH & Co. KG.

History

Powerland was founded in 2003 as Powerland Fujian, initially producing textiles. In 2005, the company began manufacturing synthetic leather goods, and in 2007 it started producing luxury women's handbags. For this purpose, it entered a cooperation with the design studio of Francesco Turchi, who has developed luxury goods for brands such as Gucci, Fendi, Bulgari, and Acqua di Parma. The founder, Shunyuan Guo, holds more than 60% of shares through Guo GmbH & Co. KG. In 2011, the company established a stock corporation (Aktiengesellschaft) based in Frankfurt am Main for its intended IPO in the first half of 2011 on the Prime Standard of the Frankfurt Stock Exchange. The stock was listed on 11 April 2011. On 5 June 2015, Powerland AG applied for delisting from the Frankfurt Stock Exchange, as the economic benefit of the listing did not justify the associated effort. The stock had lost more than 90% of its value since listing. Shares continued to trade in the over-the-counter market on the Hamburg Stock Exchange. On 31 July 2015, Guo GmbH & Co. KG announced a public takeover offer to remaining shareholders at 0.80 Euro per Powerland share. At the end of 2017, the listing in Hamburg ended. The company operates from two locations in southeast China: Fujian and Guangzhou. In Fujian, the design and marketing department for luxury products, largely made of real leather, is located, as well as designs for fabric products, which are also produced and distributed from there. In Guangzhou, the complete manufacturing and distribution process for Sotto products, largely made of synthetic leather, is based. Powerland develops, manufactures, and distributes handbags, travel bags, suitcases, laptop bags, wallets, purses, and other accessories. The Powerland brand luxury items are sold through over 110 own stores and sales points exclusively in China, targeting the growing Chinese middle class. Sotto brand products in the lower price range are sold to wholesalers, department stores, and supermarkets, also abroad. The company started with this business in 2003, and luxury items were added in 2008.
