Overview

Power Energia Società Cooperativa is an Italian user cooperative (cooperativa di utenza) that supplies electricity and gas, primarily to member businesses. It was founded in Bologna in December 2006 on the initiative of Confcooperative Emilia Romagna, and today it is described as an asset of the national Confcooperative and of the wider Italian cooperative system. As a cooperative, it is owned by and serves its members rather than outside shareholders, and it is not a listed company. Its service lines include electricity (luce), gas, the Think Green sustainability programme, and a 'plus' offering. It also provides energy-efficiency consulting, electric-mobility services, and support for companies aiming to become 'plastic free'. According to its own account, Power Energia counts thousands of member businesses and describes itself as the leading cooperative in Italy for supplies, and it is accredited as a wholesaler (Grossista) with the Italian energy regulator ARERA. It began operating in the gas market in 2012. Over the years it has developed social and environmental initiatives, including the 2016 'Diamo energia alla solidarietà' project, the Bosco Co2op tree-planting programme launched in 2018, and the Think Green programme started in 2020, with a Think Green competition held in 2021 to mark its 15th anniversary. Its headquarters are in Bologna, and it operates in the Italian market. The cooperative also highlights certifications and ratings such as the Rating di Legalità (legality rating), Rating ESG, UNI/PdR 125 certification on gender equality, and it publishes information on regulatory matters affecting members, such as ARERA measures following emergency declarations in Calabria, Sardinia and Sicily.

History

Power Energia Società Cooperativa was founded in Bologna in December 2006 on the initiative of Confcooperative Emilia Romagna. It was established as a user cooperative (cooperativa di utenza) to supply electricity to member businesses, and it has since become described as an asset of the national Confcooperative and of the entire Italian cooperative system. The cooperative reports that it counts thousands of member businesses and presents itself as the leading cooperative in Italy for supplies, and it is accredited as a wholesaler (Grossista) with the Autorità di Regolazione per Energia Reti e Ambiente (ARERA). From 2012 the cooperative also began operating in the gas market, extending its offering beyond electricity. In addition to energy supply, it developed consulting services for energy efficiency, services for electric mobility, and services to help companies achieve 'plastic free' status. Over the years Power Energia has combined its commercial activity with social and environmental initiatives. In 2016, to celebrate its tenth year of activity, it carried out the project 'Diamo energia alla solidarietà', through which 24 projects with strong social impact were financed. In 2018 the Bosco Co2op environmental sustainability project began, providing for the planting each year of as many plants as the GWh supplied by the cooperative. In 2020 the cooperative launched the 'Think Green' programme for the development of sustainability among member businesses.
