Overview

Potzollcalli is a Mexican restaurant chain that began on September 15, 1972. It was founded by young students and workers from the La Merced neighborhood who sought to offer a comfortable place to enjoy pozole. The first branch opened in 1972 on Avenida Xola No. 32 in Colonia Álamos, with cooks from Guerrero to preserve the original flavor. Over time, other Mexican dishes such as tacos and mole were added. Currently, Potzollcalli has 25 branches in Mexico City, the State of Mexico, and Yucatán, and is part of Grupo Potzollcalli, which also includes Lalos and Lolas and Restaurante Mercaderes.

History

Potzollcalli was born on September 15, 1972, to the rhythm of mariachis. In the early seventies, a couple of young students and workers from the La Merced neighborhood noticed the need to offer a comfortable and safe place to taste a good plate of pozole, which at that time was a undervalued dish sold only in markets and cenadurías. They searched for the best pozole recipe throughout Mexico and found a wide variety in Iguala, Guerrero. To preserve the original flavor, cooks from Guerrero were hired to open the first unit of Grupo Potzollcalli in 1972 on Avenida Xola No. 32 in Colonia Álamos. Over time, other representative Mexican dishes such as tacos and mole were added to the menu. The quality of service and food allowed the development and consolidation of the Potzollcalli brand, leading to the opening of more restaurants. Currently, Potzollcalli is at the forefront of rescuing traditional Mexican cuisine, using original ingredients from sustainable agriculture. It has presence in Mexico City, the State of Mexico, and Yucatán, with 25 branches and two additional concepts: Lalos and Lolas in the Copilco area and Restaurante Mercaderes in the Historic Center of Mexico City.
