Overview

Potten & Pannen – Staněk group, a.s. is a Czech importer, distributor and retailer of premium kitchen equipment. The company was founded in 1992 by Pavel and Miloš Staněk, who opened their first Potten & Pannen store in Vodičkova Street in Prague. The name is Dutch for "pots and pans," reflecting the founders' focus on high-quality cookware and kitchen tools. From the outset the firm brought premium foreign kitchenware brands to the Czech market and introduced a then-novel retail concept: installing a kitchen worktop in the store so customers could try products before buying. Over the following decades the company expanded its store network in Prague and beyond. Additional stores opened in Pařížská Street and on Wenceslas Square in the 1990s, followed after 2000 by locations in shopping centres such as Nový Smíchov and Palladium. In April 2010 the first Potten & Pannen Concept Store opened in Prague's Újezd district, designed as a fully equipped kitchen where customers could test products in a real culinary environment. In October 2012 the company expanded into Slovakia with a store in Bratislava's Central shopping centre, and in 2013 new stores followed in Brno and Olomouc. A major milestone came in 2014, when the Vodičkova Street store was completely rebuilt to become the world's first KitchenAid Concept Store, incorporating the Gourmet Academy premium cooking school with courses for adults and children. In 2018 the company launched the Popasta.cz e-shop and its Slovak version Popasta.sk, replacing earlier Vasekuchyne.cz and Vasekuchyne.sk sites; a year later online sales were unified under the current pottenpannen.cz domain, and the logo was simplified with the signatures of Pavel and Miloš Staněk added. In April 2023 the flagship Atelier Potten & Pannen – Staněk store opened on the ground floor of the five-star Andaz hotel on Senovážné Square in Prague, a two-floor, 330-square-metre space designed by Czech designers Roman Vrtiška and Vladimír Žák with Maxim Velčovský curating a selection of Czech design. As of early 2026 the company operated 14 stores in Czechia and Slovakia and represented 43 premium brands from Europe, the USA and Japan. Its portfolio includes brands such as Villeroy & Boch, KitchenAid, Mauviel, Zwilling, Emile Henry, GreenPan and Smeg, spanning categories from cooking and baking to tableware, small appliances, home goods and delicacies. The company also runs the Gourmet Academy cooking school and publishes recipes and advice. Its retail innovation has been recognised with Global Innovation Awards (GIA) in 2017 and 2024, making it the first company to win the main prize twice, and in 2025 the Atelier store placed second in the Visa Czech Top Shop competition.

History

Potten & Pannen – Staněk group, a.s. is a Czech company founded in 1992 by Pavel and Miloš Staněk. The first Potten & Pannen store (the name is Dutch for "pots and pans") opened in Vodičkova Street in Prague. A year later the company launched wholesale operations. From the beginning it brought premium foreign kitchenware brands to the Czech market and introduced a new concept to Czech consumer culture: installing a kitchen worktop in the store so customers could try goods before buying. In the 1990s two more stores opened in Prague, in Pařížská Street and on Wenceslas Square. While they helped raise brand awareness, business results were unsatisfactory, and the Pařížská Street store was closed after three years. The Wenceslas Square store lasted 11 years longer but was eventually relocated to Malá Strana in 2012. After 2000 several more stores were established in Prague, for example in the Nový Smíchov and Palladium shopping centres. In April 2010 the first Potten & Pannen Concept Store opened in Prague's Újezd district, designed as a fully equipped kitchen allowing customers to try products in a real culinary environment. In October 2012 the company expanded to Slovakia, opening a new store in Bratislava's Central shopping centre, which, like the renovated store in OC Nový Smíchov, was furnished in the Cooking Cinema design concept by architect Petr Václavek. In 2013 new Potten & Pannen stores were added in Brno and Olomouc. After a complete reconstruction designed by architect Ivana Dombková, the Vodičkova Street store was transformed in 2014 into the world's first KitchenAid Concept Store. It also includes the Gourmet Academy premium cooking school, which offers courses for adults and for children from nine years old up to teenagers under the name Le Petit Chef Academy. In 2018 the company launched a new e-shop, Popasta.cz, and its Slovak version Popasta.sk, replacing the earlier Vasekuchyne.cz and Vasekuchyne.sk e-shops. A year later online sales were unified under the current domain pottenpannen.cz. In the same year the logo was changed, simplified and supplemented with the signature of Pavel and Miloš Staněk. In April 2023 the flagship Atelier Potten & Pannen – Staněk store opened on the ground floor of the five-star Andaz hotel on Senovážné Square in Prague. The interior of the two-floor, 330-square-metre Atelier was designed by Czech designers Roman Vrtiška and Vladimír Žák in collaboration with Maxim Velčovský, who also became the curator of a selection of Czech design. In terms of achievements, in 2017 the KitchenAid Concept Store in Vodičkova Street received the Global Innovation Awards (GIA), which since 2000 have been organised by the International Housewares Association to recognise exceptional results, business innovation and creative merchandising in home goods retail. The jury praised, among other things, the connection of the retail space with the Gourmet Academy cooking school. The same award was won in 2024 by the Atelier Potten & Pannen – Staněk, making Potten & Pannen – Staněk the first company to win the main prize twice. In 2025 the Atelier Potten & Pannen – Staněk succeeded in the Visa Czech Top Shop competition, which recognises the best brick-and-mortar stores in Czechia. In April the Atelier became the best brick-and-mortar store of the month, earning a place among twelve finalists, where it placed second overall. As of early 2026 the company operated 14 stores in Czechia and Slovakia and represented 43 premium brands from Europe, the USA and Japan.
