History

PMG.ua was founded on 20 June 2010 in Mukachevo under the name "Panorama Mukacheva" (Панорама Мукачева). It was created on the basis of the newspaper "Panorama," one of the oldest Ukrainian-language newspapers in Zakarpattia, whose first issue appeared on 7 December 1945 under the name "Prapоr Peremohy" (Banner of Victory). In 2002 the newspaper underwent a de-nationalization process under the leadership of Vasyl Harahonych. The online project was initiated by Vasyl Harahonych, a journalist, doctor of historical sciences, professor and chief editor of "Panorama." Within four years the young team raised the site to the top three most popular in the region. On 31 March 2015 "Panorama Mukacheva" rebranded to PMG.ua (Panorama Media Group). The structure of Panorama Media Group includes four self-sufficient information units: the online publication itself, the newspaper "Panorama," the newspaper "Panorama Plus Business" and the "Panorama" press center. The rebranding reflected the need for a single online platform where products created by journalists, bloggers and contributors of these four projects could appear, and a new approach to presenting the large information flow: only verified information, clearly structured and logically presented. In 2023 the editorial team presented an updated version of the PMG.ua website. On 30 November 2023 the Mukachevo City Council decided to name one of the city's streets after Vasyl Harahonych, journalist, doctor of historical sciences and chief editor of "Panorama"; the nomination was initiated by the National Union of Journalists of Ukraine. After Vasyl Harahonych's death in 2020, Yaroslava Harahonych became the ultimate beneficial owner of the publisher, and Ivan Harahonych holds the position of editor-in-chief of PMG.ua. In 2024 the National Council of Ukraine on Television and Radio Broadcasting registered PMG.ua as an entity in the field of online media and entered it into the Register of Media Entities. In 2025 PMG.ua was included in the "Map of Recommended Media," a list of Ukrainian editorial offices assessed by the Institute of Mass Information and "Detector Media" as adhering to professional journalistic standards, principles of transparency and editorial independence. In 2026 the publisher of PMG.ua, "Editorial office of the newspaper 'Panorama'" LLC, passed Journalism Trust Initiative (JTI) certification and became the first media outlet in Zakarpattia Oblast to receive the corresponding certificate; at the time PMG.ua was among 16 Ukrainian media outlets holding it. According to the editorial team, monthly audience at times reached 3.9 million visits. In 2024 the National Union of Journalists of Ukraine reported that the daily audience of the publication at peak load reached almost 800,000 visitors. The combined number of PMG.ua subscribers on social networks exceeds 375,000. In 2018 the Institute of Mass Information noted PMG.ua among Zakarpattia online media that disclosed information about the editorial team and ownership structure. In 2017 the director of the municipal enterprise "Mukachevo Public Transport," Oleksandr Bidzilya, filed a lawsuit for protection of honor, dignity and business reputation against a number of defendants, including PMG.ua, "Censor.NET" and the National Police of Ukraine; the claim concerned information published by the media based on police reports, and due to the plaintiff's failure to pay the court fee, the case was not considered on the merits.
