Overview

Plott Inc. is a Japanese entertainment venture company that produces and distributes IP content, primarily short-form anime, on YouTube. The company operates several YouTube channels, including 'Teikou Penguin', 'Black Channel', and 'Hundred Note'. Its slogan is 'Let's surprise the world with serious play.' and 'Warmth for the everyday. Enthusiasm for the world. A light for the era.' The company name derives from the term 'plot', used before writing a novel. Founded in August 2017 as 'Fabo' by Shota Okuno, the company initially explored various entertainment ventures, including a VTuber group called 'Warashibe Kogyo', before pivoting to YouTube anime in 2019. The first anime, 'Teikou Penguin', based on a popular Twitter manga by Torinosasami, launched in January 2019 and quickly gained 300,000 subscribers within six months. In August 2019, the company raised 50 million yen and changed its name to Plott. It subsequently launched several other anime channels, including 'Konketsu no Karekore', 'Zenryoku Kaihi Flag-chan!', 'Himitsu Kessha Yalminaty', and 'Black Channel' in collaboration with CoroCoro Comic. In April 2021, Plott released its first official fan community app, 'Plott Land', and in May 2021 raised 400 million yen to expand its business. In 2024, it announced plans to release a new app specialized for short anime. Plott's business extends beyond YouTube to include games, music, and merchandise based on its IP. The company has engaged in numerous collaborations with other media franchises, games, and personalities. It also provided production cooperation for short anime segments within TV Tokyo's 'Tomica Kizuna Gattai Earth Granner' and 'Majica Party'.

History

Plott Inc. was founded in August 2017 as 'Fabo' by Shota Okuno, a former intern at AR startup Graffity. Okuno, who had been interested in business since his internship, aimed to start a company in the entertainment field. Initially, he and a high school classmate attempted to enter the game industry but failed due to lack of technology and funds. After working at Graffity, Okuno became interested in VTuber business and founded Fabo. In July 2018, Fabo launched a comedy VTuber group called 'Warashibe Kogyo' through auditions, but the channel did not grow and ceased activity in December 2018. In 2019, Fabo pivoted to YouTube anime, noticing the growth of manga and anime content on the platform. The first project was an anime adaptation of 'Teikou Penguin', a popular Twitter manga by Torinosasami, which launched in January 2019. The channel grew to 300,000 subscribers in six months. In August 2019, Fabo raised 50 million yen and changed its name to Plott. The company then launched several other anime channels: 'Konketsu no Karekore' in September 2019, 'Zenryoku Kaihi Flag-chan!' in November 2019, and 'Himitsu Kessha Yalminaty' in February 2020 (co-operated with YouTuber Kirin). In August 2020, it started 'Black Channel' in collaboration with the editorial department of Monthly CoroCoro Comic. In April 2021, Plott released its first official fan community app, 'Plott Land'. In May 2021, the company raised 400 million yen to further expand its business. In 2024, Plott announced plans to release a new app specialized for short anime. Plott has also engaged in numerous collaborations with other franchises, games, and personalities, and provided production cooperation for short anime segments within TV Tokyo's 'Tomica Kizuna Gattai Earth Granner' and 'Majica Party'.
