Planta scandal in the Netherlands
In August 1960, tens of thousands of people in the Netherlands reportedly became ill and two died after eating Planta margarine. The incident was later attributed to a newly introduced additive. Planta was rebranded as Brio and later Bertolli in the Netherlands, while the Planta name continued in other markets.
