Overview
Planinska koča na Vojah is a mountain hut situated at 690 metres above sea level at the edge of the forest at the entrance to the glacial Voje Valley in Bohinj, Slovenia, where the Mostnica river flows. The hut was built by the Srednja vas v Bohinju Mountaineering Society (PD Srednja vas v Bohinju) with the help of local work organisations and was ceremonially opened on 22 July 1982. It was originally named Planinska koča Bohinjskih prvoborcev in memory of the Bohinj first-fighters who raised the uprising in the Bohinj basin in the second half of 1941; it received its current name in 1994. The hut is owned and managed by the Slovenian Mountaineering Association (Planinska zveza Slovenije) through the local PD Srednja vas v Bohinju. The hut operates year-round, though outside the main season (December to April) it is open from Friday to Sunday and during school holidays; it is closed in November. It offers 16 beds in five rooms and 24 beds in two communal dormitories, along with two WCs, washbasins and a bathroom with hot water. The dining area seats 70 guests and features a traditional farmhouse stove. Warm and cold food and a range of drinks are available to hikers. The hut is a popular starting point for walks to the Mostnica gorge and waterfalls, and it serves as a base for crossings to other mountain huts such as Koča pri slapu Mostnice, Kosijev dom na Vogarju, Planinska koča na Uskovnici and Koča na Planini pri Jezeru. Between October and November 2020 the hut underwent a complete renovation, the final phase of a project that also included electrification and connection to the public water supply. The mountaineering society also legalised the building, obtaining construction and occupancy permits. The investment was co-financed by the Republic of Slovenia and the European Union from the European Regional Development Fund. Today the hut remains a well-known hospitality and accommodation point in the Bohinj area, welcoming hikers, cyclists and visitors exploring the Triglav National Park region.
