Planinska koča Mrzlk

Planinska koča Mrzlk (also written Koča Mrzl'k) is a mountain hut at 971 metres on Mrzli vrh in Slovenia, operated by Planinsko društvo Žiri (the Žiri Mountaineering Society). The society opened the hut in June 2015, building it on the foundations of a former old-Yugoslav guard post (karavla) along the Rapallo border beneath Mrzli vrh. The society, which has around 250 members, had long lacked its own base because its earlier Dom na Goropekah had been denationalized, so it decided to invest its funds in a new building. Completing the hut in 2015 was a special gift for the society's 65th anniversary, although at that time the hut did not yet have official mountain-hut status. The hut operates at weekends and on holidays. It offers visitors pleasant shelter and lodging, and the hut keeper serves stews, klobasa v zaseki (sausage in a pot), ocvirkovca (a traditional pork-crackling dish) and other dishes well suited to mountaineers. Since the opening, the society's leadership has been very active, completing the building, and the hut at Mrzl'k gained the status of a mountain hut of the Alpine Association of Slovenia (Planinska zveza Slovenije), joining 178 other mountain huts, shelters and bivouacs with that status. The hut is located at Javorjev dol 8, 4225 Sovodenj, at latitude 46.063210 and longitude 14.054869. Summer opening hours (1 May – 30 September) are Saturdays 8:00–20:00 and Sundays and holidays 8:00–19:00. Winter opening hours (1 October – 30 April) are Saturdays 8:00–19:00 and Sundays and holidays 8:00–17:00; it is closed on 1 November (All Saints' Day / Day of Remembrance for the Dead).
