Overview

Piet Zoomers is a Dutch fashion retail brand that began in 1972 when Piet Zoomers started selling trousers from his farmhouse in Wilp, in the province of Gelderland. The business grew from a small home-based operation into a larger store, and over the years it expanded with several branches across the eastern Netherlands. In 2001 the farmhouse was converted into a fashion mall covering 5,000 square metres, which remains the brand's best-known location. At the beginning of 2004, Piet Zoomers stepped back as director-owner and was succeeded by his son Bas Zoomers and business partner Richard van Roon. The company sells more luxurious clothing brands, including Gant, Tommy Hilfiger, Ralph Lauren, G-Star, Armani and Hugo Boss. Piet Zoomers has long sponsored the football club Go Ahead Eagles, provided the representation clothing for the Netherlands national football team for a number of years from 1990, and was the main sponsor of the Apeldoorn volleyball club Dynamo from 1986 to 2009. The Wilp store was hit by two major burglaries in 2004, with clothing worth 500,000 euros reportedly stolen, and another burglary caused significant damage in 2011. In 2016 and 2017 the branches in Apeldoorn and Doetinchem were closed. The stores in Zwolle, Hengelo, Oldenzaal and Arnhem were taken over by Van Uffelen Mode in October 2017. As of 2019, the fashion mall in Wilp and a branch in Den Bosch remained. The brand operates in the Netherlands and is privately held.
