PET Dairy is a dairy brand that is 100% owned by a dairy farm cooperative, which includes family farms in the community. It is a brand of Dairy Farmers of America (DFA), a leading global dairy cooperative. The brand offers a range of fresh dairy products such as milk, half & half, cream, buttermilk, and eggnog, as well as ice cream and frozen novelties. The PET brand has historical roots dating back to 1885 with the Helvetica Milk Condensing Company, and the PET Milk Company was officially named in 1923.

History

PET Dairy's history traces back to 1885 when the Helvetica Milk Condensing Company was formed after a $15,000 investment. One of its early brands, PET Evaporated Cream, became memorable and supplied Teddy Roosevelt's Rough Riders and soldiers in both world wars. In 1923, the company officially changed its name to the PET Milk Company. During the 1920s, PET began offering fresh dairy products like ice cream and butter. From a single plant in Johnson City, Tenn., the service area grew across the Southeast. In 1941, PET supplied soldiers in World War II. Over the next half century, the PET Milk Company acquired local dairies and creameries, and the Dairy Division grew into a multimillion-dollar business employing over 3,000 people in 10 Southeastern states. Today, PET Dairy is 100% owned by family farmers.
