Peiner Träger

Peiner Träger GmbH is a steel company based in Peine, Lower Saxony, describing itself as one of the most successful European steel companies and one of the largest section steel manufacturers, specialized in the production of high-quality beams and profiles. It states that it has supplied a comprehensive full range of beam and column profiles for many decades. Since 2001 it has been an operationally independent subsidiary of Salzgitter AG. The history of the Peine steel site began with the founding of Aktiengesellschaft Peiner Walzwerk to process pig iron from the nearby Ilseder Hütte; I-profiles have been rolled in Peine since 1876, and with the invention and patenting of the Peiner Träger — a parallel-flange wide-flange beam — the company acquired an international reputation at the beginning of the 20th century.

The history of the Peine steel site began with the founding of Aktiengesellschaft Peiner Walzwerk, in order to process pig iron from the nearby Ilseder Hütte. I-profiles have been rolled in Peine since 1876. With the invention and patenting of the Peiner Träger — a parallel-flange wide-flange beam — the company acquired an international reputation at the beginning of the 20th century. In 1878 the Peiner Walzwerker Verein was founded. After the Second World War shook the Peine rolling mills, the 1950s and 1960s were marked by modernization: the plant facilities were expanded, a new basic oxygen steelworks was put into operation, and the old Thomas steelworks was shut down. In 1970 the federally owned Salzgitter AG contributed its steel division to Ilseder Hütte and in parallel acquired the majority of shares, creating Stahlwerke Peine-Salzgitter, which a few years later was in turn acquired by Preussag AG. The company was renamed from Stahlwerke Peine-Salzgitter AG to Preussag Stahl AG, until in 1998, with the IPO of Salzgitter AG, it again became an independent company. Since 2001 Peiner Träger GmbH has been an operationally independent subsidiary of Salzgitter AG.
