Overview
PEARL iZUMi is a cycling apparel brand whose European site presents jerseys, bibs, shorts, jackets, vests, hoodies, skirts and shoes, organized by riding categories such as road, MTB, gravel and commuter. The brand also offers PEARL iZUMi Custom, a service for designing custom cycling, running and triathlon gear for teams, clubs and companies, with production from one piece and over 30 years of experience cited. Its published history traces the brand's origins to Kinji Shimizu, who in 1950 rode 61 kilometers a day to deliver 41 kilograms of clothing to customers in a neighboring village, and to 1964, when his son Hiro raced for the Japanese national team at the Asian Cycling Championships and won a special jersey made in Italy and 100% nylon, after which Kinji created his first kit based on that design.
History
PEARL iZUMi's published history begins in 1950 with Kinji Shimizu, who rode 61 kilometers a day to deliver 41 kilograms of clothing to customers in a neighboring village. In 1964, one of Kinji's sons, Hiro, raced for the Japanese national team at the Asian Cycling Championships; the team ordered its usual fourteen cotton kits plus a special fifteenth, and Hiro's name was drawn, winning him a special jersey made in Italy and 100% nylon. Later that year, Kinji created his first kit based on that Italian design, using the best materials he could find, and continued researching new fabrics and studying the body in motion over the following five decades.
