Overview

PC Peripherals Ltd is a private computer hardware company based in London, England, best known for trading as MESH Computers. The MESH brand itself dates back to 1987, when MESH Computers was founded as a direct-sell manufacturer of custom-built personal computers. For most of its first two decades, MESH sold only directly to end users, building a reputation as one of the last major UK PC makers assembling bespoke systems. In November 2006 the company began selling through major retailers such as Comet, and it also supplied resellers including Ebuyer. MESH was featured in a BBC educational series about computer technology and modern factory production, alongside Rolls-Royce and Coca-Cola, and in 2010 it was voted PC Manufacturer of the Year by both Computer Shopper magazine and the Expert Reviews website. On 31 May 2011, MESH Computers entered administration under the law firm MacIntyre Hudson. At the time it had around 150 employees and operated from Staples Corner, London. Key assets were bought by components firm PC Peripherals Ltd, owned by Reza Jafari, and the MESH Computers brand name was sold the day after administration to PC Peripherals. In February 2012, Mehdi Sherafati — MESH's owner and largest creditor at the time of administration — was appointed a director of PC Peripherals, effectively regaining control of the brand name. Today PC Peripherals Ltd operates as a private company selling personal computers, peripherals and components, with the MESH Computers brand still in use as of 2024 for selling PCs under the same logo and website domain name the company used in 2011. The company occupies a niche as a UK assembler and seller of custom-built desktop and home-theatre PCs, a segment once crowded with local brands such as Evesham Technology, Tiny/Time and Elonex that largely disappeared during the Great Recession.

History

The MESH Computers business was founded in 1987 as a UK manufacturer of custom-built personal computers. During its first 20 years, computers could only be purchased directly from MESH; this direct-sell model was later broadened in November 2006 when MESH began selling through major retailers such as Comet. MESH also supplied resellers in the UK, including Ebuyer. In 2009 the company announced the MESH Cute home theatre PC. MESH was one of the last of the major UK PC manufacturers to build custom PCs for end users; at its peak the mainstream market was full of local brands such as Evesham Technology, Granville Technology (Tiny/Time), Elonex, Opus, Cube Enterprises, MJN and Dan, most of which shut down during the Great Recession, while Viglen and RM Plc continued but specialised in education systems. MESH gained recognition when the BBC filmed it as an example of computer technology and advanced production techniques in a modern factory setting, alongside Rolls-Royce and Coca-Cola. In 2010 MESH Computers was voted PC Manufacturer of the Year by both Computer Shopper magazine and the Expert Reviews website. On 31 May 2011 it was announced that MESH Computers had gone into administration under the law firm MacIntyre Hudson, and that key assets had been bought by components firm PC Peripherals, owned by Reza Jafari. At that time MESH had about 150 employees and operated from Staples Corner, London. The MESH Computers brand name was sold the day following administration to components distributor PC Peripherals Ltd. In February 2012, Mehdi Sherafati, who had been the owner of MESH (and its largest creditor) at the time it went into administration, was appointed a director of PC Peripherals, effectively regaining control of the brand name. As of 2024, the MESH Computers brand is still being used for selling personal computers, using the same logo and website domain name as the company used in 2011.
