Overview

Pathé Arnhem is a megaplex cinema located on Oude Stationsstraat in Arnhem, Netherlands, adjacent to Stationsplein. It is operated by the Dutch cinema chain Pathé. The venue opened in October 2015, replacing the former Rembrandt Theater at Velperplein, which Pathé had taken over in 2010. The cinema is known for screening mainstream, high-attendance films, while its smaller auditoriums also show Pathé Alternative Cinema (PAC) titles and general middle-of-the-road films. The complex spans six floors and contains nine auditoriums with a total capacity of 1,683 seats. Its largest auditorium, Hall 1, seats 308 and is used for IMAX presentations; the screen measures 21 by 12 metres, making it the largest IMAX screen in the Netherlands. The cinema also has two auditoriums equipped with Dolby Atmos sound systems. Pathé Arnhem is part of the Pathé cinema chain, a major European film exhibition brand. The building was designed by EUP Design and occupies a site that previously held the temporary entrance building of Arnhem railway station. The cinema primarily serves the Arnhem audience with a mix of blockbuster and alternative programming.

History

For many years, the Rembrandt Theater at Velperplein was a well-known fixture in Arnhem. In 2010, Pathé took over its operation from Minerva. After the takeover, the cinema no longer met Pathé's quality standards. Pathé carried out some refurbishment of the building in anticipation of relocating to a new premises near the Central Station. In October 2015, Pathé opened the new cinema on Oude Stationsstraat. The site, with a building designed by EUP Design, had for several years been occupied by the temporary entrance building of Arnhem railway station. The new Pathé Arnhem was built as a megaplex with nine auditoriums across six floors, a total capacity of 1,683 seats, and the largest IMAX screen in the Netherlands, measuring 21 by 12 metres. It also features two auditoriums with Dolby Atmos sound. The cinema generally screens films that attract large audiences, while smaller auditoriums show both Pathé Alternative Cinema (PAC) films and regular middle-of-the-road films.
