Overview
Panolos Bioscience is a South Korean biotechnology company specializing in the structure-based development of multi-specific biologics. The company name is a portmanteau of 'Pan' (meaning 'all') and 'Holos' (meaning 'completeness' or 'healing'), reflecting its ambition to address intractable diseases through innovative drug development. Founded in September 2019 and headquartered in Dongtan, Hwaseong, Gyeonggi-do, Panolos Bioscience has rapidly built a pipeline of multi-specific antibody therapeutics and established a proprietary platform technology known as New α ART™. The company's lead programs include PB101, an anti-cancer candidate that entered Phase 1 clinical trials in South Korea, and PB102, a next-generation multi-specific antibody built on the New α ART™ platform. Panolos Bioscience has pursued a collaborative development model, forming partnerships with domestic and international biotech companies such as Samsung Biologics for CDMO services, Kelun-Biotech for joint development of PB203, and Chime Biologics for CDMO and strategic alliance on PB203. The company has also signed research collaborations with NeoImmuneTech, Scripps Korea, Deargen, and TheraImmune. Panolos Bioscience has attracted significant investment, including a Pre-Series A round of 6 billion KRW in 2020 and a Series A round of 20.5 billion KRW in 2021. The company received the Venture Enterprise Certification in 2019 and won the Grand Prize at the KAIST Startup Award in 2021, as well as the Chairman's Award at the 3rd Korea Biopharmaceutical Awards in 2020. With its structure-based multi-specific biologics platform, Panolos Bioscience aims to create value for a better life by discovering and developing innovative therapeutics for patients with intractable diseases.
History
Panolos Bioscience was established in September 2019 in South Korea, founded with a vision to become a structure-based multi-specific biologics expert. The company name derives from 'Pan' (all) and 'Holos' (completeness, healing), symbolizing its commitment to developing innovative new drugs for patients suffering from intractable diseases. In October 2019, the company obtained Venture Enterprise Certification. In 2020, Panolos Bioscience moved its headquarters to Dongtan and opened a research institute in May. The same year, it signed a CDMO agreement with Samsung Biologics for process development and Phase 1 clinical sample production of its anti-cancer candidate PB101. It also formed research collaborations with NeoImmuneTech for combination therapy of Hi-Leukin7 and PB101, with TheraImmune (US) for atopic/autoimmune skin disease drug development, and with Deargen for AI-based drug development. The company raised 5 billion KRW in angel investment in February and 6 billion KRW in Pre-Series A funding in September. In November 2020, it received the Chairman's Award from the Korea Bio Association at the 3rd Korea Biopharmaceutical Awards. In 2021, Panolos Bioscience continued to advance its pipeline and partnerships. In March, it signed an MOU with Scripps Korea for multi-target pancreatic/solid tumor therapeutics. In May, it closed a Series A round of 20.5 billion KRW. In December, it won the Grand Prize at the KAIST Startup Award 2021. The company also filed a patent for PB101 in combination with immune checkpoint inhibitors (ICI) in March 2021 and presented combination effect data at AACR in April 2021. In 2022, Panolos Bioscience entered a joint development agreement with Kelun-Biotech for PB203 in August and filed a domestic patent for New α ART™ (PB102) in 2022. In 2023, the company achieved several milestones: in May, PB101 received IND approval for Phase 1 clinical trials in South Korea and a clinical development partnership with Medirama was signed; in July, a PCT patent application was filed for New α ART™ (PB102); and in September, a CDMO and strategic alliance agreement for PB203 was signed with Chime Biologics. As of the latest available information, Panolos Bioscience continues to develop its multi-specific biologics pipeline and seeks to create value for a better life through innovative therapeutics.
