Pan Pacific International Holdings Corporation

Pan Pacific International Holdings Corporation (PPIH) is a Japanese company that operates the Don Quijote discount store chain and other retail formats. It was founded in 1980 as Just Co., Ltd. and later renamed Don Quijote Co., Ltd. and then Don Quijote Holdings Co., Ltd. before adopting its current name in 2019. The company is listed on the Tokyo Stock Exchange and has expanded internationally, including in Singapore, Thailand, Hong Kong, and the United States.

The company was founded in October 1978 when Takao Yasuda, at age 29, opened an 18-tsubo miscellaneous goods store named 'Dorobou Ichiba' in Nishi-Ogikubo. In September 1980, Just Co., Ltd. (the current Pan Pacific International Holdings Corporation) was established in Suginami-ku, Tokyo, with capital of 3 million yen for wholesale and retail sales. In March 1989, the first Don Quijote store, the Fuchu store, opened in Fuchu, Tokyo. In September 1995, the company changed its name to Don Quijote Co., Ltd. In December 1996, it was registered over-the-counter, and in June 1998, it was listed on the Second Section of the Tokyo Stock Exchange. In July 2000, it was designated to the First Section of the Tokyo Stock Exchange. In October 2009, it began selling its private brand 'Jounetsu Kakaku'. In December 2013, it changed its name to Don Quijote Holdings Co., Ltd. and transitioned to a pure holding company structure. In March 2014, it launched its own electronic money service 'majica'. In January 2015, it opened the first 'TOKYO CENTRAL' store in California, USA. In August 2017, it formed a capital and business alliance with Uny FamilyMart Holdings Co., Ltd. In December 2017, it opened its first Singapore store 'DON DON DONKI Orchard Central'. In February 2019, it changed its name to Pan Pacific International Holdings Corporation. In February 2019, it opened its first Thailand store 'DONKI MALL THONGLOR'. In July 2019, it opened its first Hong Kong store 'DON DON DONKI Mira Place 2'. In February 2021, it renewed its private brand 'Jounetsu Kakaku'.
