Pajar's history spans over 60 years and five generations. Paul Golbert founded the brand in 1963 using the first letters of his family's first names: Paul, Jacques, and Rachel. The footwear story begins earlier, in 1926, when Paul Golbert was born in Paris, France, into a shoemaking family, where he learned the family trade and the fundamentals that continue to guide the brand. In 1964, Paul was one of the first pioneers within the footwear industry to import Italian, French and Spanish footwear to the Canadian market. In 1967, the year Montréal welcomed the world Expo 67, Paul Golbert opened his first showroom in downtown Montréal. In 1973, he opened his own factory on the corner of Coloniale and Mont Royal in the Plateau district of Montréal. In 1975, Paul's son Jacques joined the company after graduating with a degree in Economics from the University of Lausanne and training at France's École de la Chaussure. In 1985, the brand won the Canadian Footwear Association Award for Best Women's Casual Footwear. In 1989, it became the official provider for the Canadian Alpine Ski Team.
