Otyrar-TV

Otyrar-TV (Russian: Отырар-TV) is a regional television channel and news publisher based in Shymkent, Kazakhstan. It broadcasts to the city of Shymkent and the surrounding Turkistan Region, reaching an audience of nearly 1.5 million viewers, with programming in both Kazakh and Russian. The channel began broadcasting in 1992 under the name Kanal 5, was renamed Caravan two years later, and adopted the Otyrar-TV name in 1997, since when it has broadcast 24 hours a day. Its schedule includes television series, films and news formats. Beyond linear television, Otyrar-TV operates a substantial digital news operation through its website otyrar.kz, which publishes local news and feature journalism for the Shymkent area. The site is organised into sections covering society, incidents and emergencies, company news, economics, sport, weather, photo of the day and lifestyle tips, alongside people-focused verticals such as interviews, notable personalities, love stories and memory/history features, plus a dedicated Shymkent city section and a classified-ads ('Gazeta Rabat') area. Content is published in Russian and Kazakh, reflecting the bilingual media environment of southern Kazakhstan. The outlet positions itself as a local news and storytelling brand for Shymkent — its tagline presents the city 'in news and stories' — combining broadcast television with an online news portal and social distribution via Facebook, Instagram, Telegram, X and YouTube. It is a regional rather than national broadcaster, and its identity is closely tied to the city of Shymkent and the historical Otrar/Turkistan region of southern Kazakhstan.
