OSV Institute

OSV Institute for Catholic Innovation is described by its official site as a dynamic extension of and aligned with the mission of OSV. It focuses on inspiring and encouraging innovative and impactful Church-related programs and activities, aiming to create an ecosystem for Catholic innovation. Its history traces to 1915, when OSV Institute began as a way to reinvest money generated from publishing and printing activities back into the Church. In 1975 it officially received its name and a more formalized program for the use of OSV's funds, and in 2021 OSV decided to evolve the strategy and name of OSV Institute to focus on Catholic innovation.

According to the official history page, over 100 years ago Archbishop Noll founded OSV using new methods and new approaches to communicate the Gospel. In 1915, OSV Institute began as a way to reinvest money generated from publishing and printing activities back into the Church. OSV founder Father John Francis Noll felt that the money was not 'his' and that all he had belonged to the service of the Church. In 1975, OSV Institute officially received its name, as well as a more formalized program for the use of OSV's funds; since then, its main form of philanthropy has been distributing funds in the form of grants. In May 2017, the OSV board created and outlined a new vision for the future of OSV Institute, including going beyond grants to seed capital for new innovation, greater alignment to OSV priorities, and a proactive approach to identifying needs and driving the priorities and projects of the Institute. In 2021, OSV made the decision to evolve the strategy and name of OSV Institute to focus on Catholic innovation.
