Overview
Ospelt-Gruppe is a family-owned food company that traces its origins to Herbert Ospelt's small butcher's shop in Vaduz, Liechtenstein, in 1958. According to its own history, the company remains in family hands and operates as an international group with production at five locations. Its food range covers charcuterie and meat products, pasta, pizzas, sandwiches, fish and seafood, and it also produces wet and dry pet food for dogs and cats.
History
In 1958 Herbert Ospelt acquired the butcher's shop in Vaduz (Liechtenstein) from his father Albert, and in the same year married Blanca Hildenbrand, who from then on ran the butcher's shop. In 1960 a further property was acquired in Vaduz and a production building was constructed. In 1967 a new production site was established in Bendern (Liechtenstein), enabling meat and sausage production on a larger scale. In 1969 production of wet pet food began in Bendern. In 1971 the Malbuner brand was created and built up. In 1981 the sole proprietorship Herbert Ospelt was converted into Herbert Ospelt Aktiengesellschaft, with all shares held by the family. In 1982 production of pasta and ready meals as well as air-dried ham was built up at the Sargans (Switzerland) site. In 1987 a new pet food production site was established in Bendern, producing wet and dry food for dogs and cats for domestic and export markets. In 1989 the existing stock corporation was converted into Herbert Ospelt Anstalt. The company states that it remains in family hands and produces as an international group at five locations.
