Overview

OSferionBiomaterials Corp. (OSB) is a Japanese medical device and biomaterials company headquartered in Shibuya-ku, Tokyo. Its business began on 1 October 2004 as Olympus Biomaterial Corporation, and it has since evolved through joint ventures, ownership changes and a 2025 renaming into its current form. The company researches, develops, manufactures and sells biomaterials such as artificial bone, metal implants designed to fit Japanese skeletal anatomy, and related treatment-support systems, with a focus on the spine, knee and ankle areas. OSB's mission is expressed as "Return to Active Life" — restoring patients' joy of moving freely. Its vision is to become the very "support of the body" by preserving and reconstructing native physical function, and its values are summarized as Openness, Speed and Breakthrough. A flagship area of activity is joint-preserving treatment for knee osteoarthritis, such as high tibial osteotomy, which can allow patients to return to high-impact sports like jogging or to physically demanding work. Beyond selling products, OSB emphasizes education for the spread of such treatments and collaborates with physicians on research to build clinical evidence. The company operates a Mishima factory and R&D center, a Shinagawa logistics center and a Fukuoka logistics center. As of 1 August 2025 it had 127 employees and capital of 100,000,000 yen. Its representative director and president is Manabu Ishikawa. Ownership has shifted over time: it became a wholly owned subsidiary of Olympus in August 2023, then changed parent to Polaris Capital Group in July 2024 through OrthoActiVolution Holdings, and in August 2025 merged with PTCJ-6O Holdings and adopted the OSferionBiomaterials name. In August 2026 it announced a business alliance with Japan Tissue Engineering Co., Ltd. to combine regenerative medicine with osteotomy for knee joint-preserving treatment.
