History

In 2009, the Bachelot reform planned budget cuts for the Planning familial; a large petition mobilized French society widely. Following this mobilization, about ten young women met on 5 April 2009 at one of their homes and decided to create a new feminist organization. They chose the name "Osez le féminisme !", setting aside "les clitoridiennes". The association grew very quickly, launched a journal, and organized a first training weekend in Lyon: Osez le féminisme ! was born. It innovated in activism methods by launching a major campaign "Contre le viol – La Honte doit changer de Camp" with the CFCV and Mix-Cité, based on strong web and social media mobilization. Today, Osez le féminisme ! has more than 26 branches across France and abroad, over 100,000 people on its Facebook page, and a regular media presence that allows it to spread its ideas and have an impact on institutions and public opinion. Osez le féminisme ! has been a member of the Haut Conseil à l'Egalité entre les femmes et les hommes since 9 January 2013, represented by Magali de Haas (2013-2016) and then by Claire Serre-Combe since 29 January 2016. The association is also a member of the board of the Coordination Française pour le Lobby Européen des Femmes (CLEF) and a member of the bureau of the Centre Hubertine Auclert.
