Overview
Osaka Alloying Works Co., Ltd. is a Japanese company that manufactures master alloys and copper alloy industrial materials. Founded through individual operations begun in 1935 in Osaka and incorporated in 1949, it relocated its head office registration to Fukui in 1989. The company states it holds a 100% domestic production share for phosphorus master alloys and supplies copper industry companies in Japan and overseas. It also produces copper alloy castings and processed products, including bronze for superconducting wire and OM Alloy wear-resistant copper alloy castings.
History
The company's origins trace to June 1935, when first president Densuke Mitani began manufacturing copper alloy castings and master alloys as an individual business in Osaka. In July 1949, Osaka Alloying Works Co., Ltd. was established with capital of 5 million yen. In June 1961, capital was increased to 6 million yen and the Ibaraki Plant was built in Ibaraki City, Osaka Prefecture. In January 1975, the raw material for phosphor copper ingots was switched from red phosphorus to yellow phosphorus. In April 1984, a patent was obtained for a phosphor copper ingot manufacturing apparatus and method. In October 1987, the head office plant was relocated to Technoport Fukui in Fukui City and the Ibaraki Plant was closed. In July 1989, the head office registration was moved to Technoport Fukui, making it a Fukui-based company. The company states that in 1970 it established a manufacturing method for phosphorus master alloys using yellow phosphorus, which self-ignites at 30°C, and that it remains the only company in Japan capable of adding phosphorus to metals. In 1984 it developed and patented the Mizuta-style melting method, which uses a water shower for rapid cooling to produce copper alloy of uniform concentration.
