Overview
Regionalverkehr Erzgebirge GmbH (RVE) is a German regional public transport company operating bus services in the Free State of Saxony. It was formed on 1 January 2011 through the merger of two predecessor operators, BVO Verkehrsbetriebe Erzgebirge GmbH and Autobus GmbH Sachsen, a consolidation prompted by the 2008 Saxon district reform that created the Erzgebirgskreis. On 12 April 2011 the merged company was renamed Regionalverkehr Erzgebirge GmbH. Its network covers the Erzgebirgskreis and the eastern part of the Landkreis Zwickau, where it runs a total of 152 lines. The company's services span urban bus routes, regional and school transport, and long-distance express coach lines. It operates seven depots (Betriebshöfe) in Annaberg-Buchholz, Aue, Lugau, Marienberg, Olbernhau, Schwarzenberg and Zschopau, and maintains bus stations or central interchange points in Annaberg-Buchholz, Aue, Chemnitz, Olbernhau, Schwarzenberg, Stollberg and Zschopau. Passenger-facing facilities include customer offices and traffic-service/travel agencies in several of these towns. Since 13 August 2018 RVE has also operated an express bus line (Line 383) linking Chemnitz with Aue and Schwarzenberg or Schneeberg. RVE works with a number of subcontractors that provide part of its operating mileage, including Katzenstein Reisen, Bauer Reisen, Bräuer Reisen, Gläser Reisen, Fahrschule Herrl, Reisedienst Gerhart Kaiser, Regiobus Nentwich, Sachs Busreisen, Bustouristik Schreiter, Thierfelder Reisen, TJS Reisedienst and Zacharias Verkehrsbetrieb. It also holds a stake in RVE Akademie GmbH. In the past it held interests in the Sächsische Dampfeisenbahngesellschaft (SDG) and the City-Bahn Chemnitz. The company is a private limited company (GmbH) and is not publicly listed.
History
Regionalverkehr Erzgebirge GmbH traces its origins to two Saxon bus operators: BVO Verkehrsbetriebe Erzgebirge GmbH and Autobus GmbH Sachsen. The 2008 district reform in Saxony created the Erzgebirgskreis, which prompted the two companies to merge. The merger took effect on 1 January 2011, and on 12 April 2011 the combined entity was renamed Regionalverkehr Erzgebirge GmbH. The company is headquartered in the Saxon Free State and operates as a regional transport undertaking. In the years following its formation, RVE consolidated its network across the Erzgebirgskreis and the eastern part of the Landkreis Zwickau. As of 2019 it held a stake in RVE Akademie GmbH. In the past it had also held interests in the Sächsische Dampfeisenbahngesellschaft (SDG), which had emerged from the former BVO subsidiary BVO Bahn, and in the City-Bahn Chemnitz. The Landkreis Zwickau announced that it would re-tender its transport services from 1 January 2019, and RVE decided not to participate in that tender. RVE operates 152 lines in total. Its network includes urban services, regional routes, school special lines under § 43 PBefG, and long-distance coach services such as the UsedomExpress (Line 1005) and RügenExpress (Line 1006), which are operated as a service for Herrl. Since 13 August 2018 the company has also run an express bus line, Line 383, connecting Chemnitz with Aue and Schwarzenberg or Schneeberg. The company maintains seven depots in Annaberg-Buchholz, Aue, Lugau, Marienberg, Olbernhau, Schwarzenberg and Zschopau. It also operates bus stations or central interchange points in Annaberg-Buchholz, Aue, Chemnitz, Olbernhau, Schwarzenberg, Stollberg and Zschopau, along with customer offices and traffic-service/travel agencies in several towns. A number of subcontractors provide part of the operating mileage on behalf of RVE.
