Overview
The Order of Knights Templar of Jerusalem – Great Priory of Ukraine (Ukrainian: Орден Лицарів Тамплієрів Єрусалима - Великий Пріорат України) is a Ukrainian public organization and charitable body that operates as the national branch of the International Order of Knights Templar of Jerusalem (OSMTH), an order registered in Switzerland under registration number CH-660-1972999-4. It is not a commercial enterprise in the conventional sense but a registered non-profit entity that uses the Templar name and structure, and it is treated here as a trademarked organizational brand. The organization traces its Ukrainian roots to 2012, when the "Saint Nicholas" commandery was created in Kyiv under the mentorship of the Great Priory of Bulgaria. On 9 August 2013 a charitable organization, the "Charitable Fund OLTYe (Order of Knights Templar of Jerusalem)", was registered at an office in Kyiv, initially headed by Anatoliy Filippov and later, from 2018, by Mykola Serhiienko. In 2014 Serhiienko also headed a separate public organization named "Order of Knights Templar of Jerusalem – Great Priory of Ukraine", with Oleh Kotenko listed as co-founder. A duplicate organization, "Order of Knights Templar of Jerusalem – Priory of Ukraine", was also registered in Kyiv in 2014. The priory's main areas of work are charitable: providing priority assistance to military medical institutions, especially peripheral hospitals that lack sufficient state budget support; running the annual children's drawing competition "My Father is a Knight – Defender of Ukraine" with cash prizes; and supporting children's homes, including the Fastiv children's home and a home in Tsybli. Documented donations include syringes, surgical and dressing materials worth 70,000 hryvnias and household appliances to the Zhytomyr military hospital on 7 April 2015, followed by functional beds and an ultrasound diagnostic device on 29 April; an operating table, defibrillator, surgical instrument set, wheelchairs, crutches and dressing materials to the Khmelnytskyi military hospital on 30 June 2015; furniture and equipment to the Kurakhove city hospital in June 2016; and support for wounded soldiers at the Kyiv military hospital from 2017. In terms of governance, the First Convent of the Priory of Ukraine was held on 19–22 February 2016 with the participation of the Great Prior of Bulgaria, Major General Rumen Ralchev, and the Great Prior of Serbia, Dragutin Zagorac. On 13 October 2016, at the Magistral Council of the Order of Knights Templar of Jerusalem (OSMTH) in Sofia, Bulgaria, the Priory of Ukraine was granted the status of Great Priory of Ukraine and recognized as a full member of the Order. The Third Convent took place on 27–28 May 2017 with the Great Prior of Bulgaria Rumen Ralchev and the Great Prior of Germany Elke Brün, and the Fifth Convent was held on 2 June 2018. The organization maintains an official website at osmth.com.ua and is related to other Templar and charitable bodies such as the Order of Knights Templar of Jerusalem, Caritas Ukraine and Malteser Hilfsdienst. Its public profile is primarily humanitarian and fraternal rather than commercial.
History
The Order of Knights Templar of Jerusalem – Great Priory of Ukraine emerged from the broader international Templar movement known as the International Order of Knights Templar of Jerusalem (OSMTH), which is registered in Switzerland under registration number CH-660-1972999-4. The Ukrainian branch was built in several stages. In 2012, the "Saint Nicholas" commandery was established in Kyiv under the mentorship of the Great Priory of Bulgaria. This was followed on 9 August 2013 by the registration of a charitable organization, the "Charitable Fund OLTYe (Order of Knights Templar of Jerusalem)", at an office in Kyiv. Its first head was Anatoliy Filippov; in 2018 he was succeeded by Mykola Serhiienko. The fund's registration code in the EDRPOU register is 38886382. In 2014, Serhiienko also took the lead of a separate public organization named "Order of Knights Templar of Jerusalem – Great Priory of Ukraine". According to the website "Klarity", Oleh Kotenko was a co-founder. The same year, a duplicate organization, "Order of Knights Templar of Jerusalem – Priory of Ukraine", was registered in Kyiv at an office address (Kyiv, Kosmonavta Komarova Avenue, 6) under number 1419905. The main organization was registered with the Kyiv City Council under number 1420662, and as of 1 January 2015 its listed address was a residential building in the Podil district (Kyiv, Kopylivska Street, 31, apt. 33), according to the publication "Kyiv Passport". The organization's charitable work became its defining activity. It prioritized aid to military medical institutions, especially peripheral hospitals whose state budget funding was insufficient. On 7 April 2015 the Zhytomyr military hospital received syringes, surgical and dressing materials worth a total of 70,000 hryvnias, as well as household appliances; on 29 April it received functional beds and an ultrasound diagnostic device. On 30 June 2015 the Khmelnytskyi military hospital received an operating table, a defibrillator, a set of surgical instruments, wheelchairs, crutches and dressing materials. In June 2016 the Kurakhove city hospital received furniture and equipment. From 2017 the order provided assistance to wounded soldiers at the Kyiv military hospital. In parallel, the order ran the annual national children's drawing competition "My Father is a Knight – Defender of Ukraine", with cash prizes, and supported children's homes, including the Fastiv children's home and a home in Tsybli, where it regularly provided furniture, computers, clothing and food, and organized cultural events. Governance milestones followed. The First Convent of the Priory of Ukraine was held on 19–22 February 2016, attended by the Great Prior of Bulgaria, Major General Rumen Ralchev, and the Great Prior of Serbia, Dragutin Zagorac. On 13 October 2016, at the Magistral Council of the Order of Knights Templar of Jerusalem (OSMTH) held in Sofia, Bulgaria, the Priory of Ukraine was granted the status of Great Priory of Ukraine and recognized as a full member of the Order. The Third Convent took place on 27–28 May 2017 with the participation of the Great Prior of Bulgaria, Rumen Ralchev, and the Great Prior of Germany, Elke Brün. The Fifth Convent was held on 2 June 2018. The organization maintains an official website at osmth.com.ua and is related to other bodies such as the Order of Knights Templar of Jerusalem, Caritas Ukraine and Malteser Hilfsdienst.
