History
Josef Oppmann, a winemaker's son, learned the secrets of premium sparkling wine production in Champagne. At age 23, he returned to Franconia and founded his sparkling wine cellar in Würzburg in 1865. The company soon earned the title 'Bayerischer Hoflieferant' and received highest awards at world exhibitions in Paris, Vienna, Philadelphia, and Sydney. After Josef Oppmann's death, the company was converted into a stock corporation in 1898. During the bombing night of March 16, 1945, the main building was destroyed, but the vaulted cellars survived, allowing production to resume in 1947. The company remains committed to its traditional slogan 'Sekt aus bestem Haus' and has become one of Germany's leading specialty cellars.
