Overview
Okitsumo Inc. is a Japanese specialty coatings manufacturer headquartered in Nabari, Mie Prefecture. The company traces its origins to 1934, when it began researching and selling lacquer, and to the 1935 establishment of Sanei Chemical Industry as a lacquer specialty plant in Osaka. Over the following decades the business expanded into industrial paints, and in 1957 it began commercializing the heat-resistant paint sold under the "Okitsumo" name. The corporate name was formally changed to Okitsumo Incorporated in 1987. Okitsumo's core competence is heat-resistant paint technology. Its products are used on high-temperature equipment and objects such as automobile and motorcycle engines and mufflers, chimneys, microwave ovens, cooking utensils, frying pans, and heaters. The company's base technology is described as organic-inorganic composite technology, combining silicone resins with metal oxides and reinforcing materials. In recent years it has developed products using engineering plastics, fluorine and PEEK resins, and nanosized inorganic fillers, as well as paints with added heat-insulation and heat-release functions. A notable recent product is HIP AERO, a heat-insulation and heat-retention paint for facilities released in November 2015. It is marketed for reducing heat loss and lowering fuel or electricity expenses for heating. The company has also expanded internationally, establishing Okitsumo USA Incorporated in 1994 and Okitsumo International (Asia) Co., Ltd. in Thailand in 1996. It operates through affiliated companies including Okitech Incorporated and has been certified under ISO 9001 (1998) and ISO 14001 (1999). Okitsumo remains an active Japanese industrial coatings maker, serving customers through product-line and application-based searches, technical data sheets, and experimental video resources on its official website.
