Overview
OIC Group Co., Ltd. (株式会社OICグループ, pronounced "Oishii Group") is a Japanese holding company headquartered in Saiwai-ku, Kawasaki, Kanagawa Prefecture, with a Tokyo office in the Marunouchi district of Chiyoda. It is the parent of the Lopia supermarket chain and a broad portfolio of food-related businesses, and describes itself as a retail holding company in Kanagawa Prefecture. The group traces its origins to 1971, when a meat shop called Niku no Takaraya opened in Fujisawa; the business later became Yutakaraya and then Lopia, and in 2011 a holding-company structure was created as Lopia Holdings. In May 2023 the holding company was renamed OIC Group. The group's core is food retail. Its best-known banner, Lopia, is a value-oriented supermarket chain known for large-format stores and strong meat and prepared-food offerings. OIC Group also controls Super Value, a supermarket operator centered on Saitama and Tokyo, and Akidai, a smaller-format supermarket chain. Beyond retail, the group has assembled a vertically integrated food platform: agricultural and marine producers such as Kawasaki Nanbu Seika and Kawasaki Marugyo; livestock and meat companies including Kai Shokusan, Hokkaido Chitose Ham, Furukawa Meat and Tokachi Meat Center; food manufacturers such as DeRie Foods, Marukoshi Brewing, Torashoyu, Kyoto Foods, Sancerite and Komugi-ya; trading houses including Euras and Nihon Mycela; and restaurant operators such as Eatopia, the Dojo Rokuzaburo office, Tai System, Soranoiro, The Hamilton, Kamiya, KEING Corporation and Denko Sekka. Group companies also operate overseas, including in Taiwan, South Korea, Singapore and the United States. OIC Group positions itself around the idea of a "food theme park" — combining shopping with entertainment, open kitchens, fresh ingredients and experiences — and around "manufacturing retail," integrating planning, production, procurement, processing and sales. Its stated ambitions include presenting a new image of Japanese food to the world and creating a workplace where employees can take pride. The group has grown aggressively through acquisitions, adding dozens of companies in the 2020s, and it has set long-term targets of ¥2 trillion in sales and 100 group companies by 2031. Group sales were reported at ¥640.4 billion for the fiscal year ending February 2026, with about 3,100 full-time employees and an average employee age of 36.7. The representative director is Yusuke Takagi.
History
OIC Group's history begins in 1971 with the founding of a meat shop, Niku no Takaraya, in Fujisawa. In 1972 the business was incorporated as Yugen Kaisha Niku no Takaraya Nakagawa Chikusan, and in 1976 it began chain expansion. Ham and sausage manufacturing started in 1980. In 1994 the company entered the supermarket business with the opening of the New Town Nakagawa store. In 1996 it reorganized and renamed itself Yutakaraya Co., Ltd., and in 2011 it changed its name again to Lopia Co., Ltd. and established Lopia Holdings as a holding company. The group then began building out a vertically integrated food platform. In 2012 it opened the Shonan Process Center. Yusuke Takagi became representative director in 2013. Kawasaki Nanbu Seika was established in 2015, followed by trading house Euras and the participation of DeRie Foods in 2016. In 2018 Marukoshi Brewing joined and Kawasaki Marugyo was established. Eatopia was founded in 2019. In 2021 the group added Fine Fruits Oogimi, Kai Shokusan and the Dojo Rokuzaburo office. 2022 was a pivotal year: L Yokohama Center was established, and Shonin Net, Nihon Mycela and Super Value joined the group. Super Value became a consolidated subsidiary after OIC Group subscribed to its third-party allotment of new shares on August 31, 2022, following a capital and business alliance signed on July 15, 2022. In March 2023 Akidai was acquired, and on May 1, 2023 the holding company changed its name to OIC Group Co., Ltd. In October 2023 group company Marukoshi Brewing acquired Torashoyu, a seasoning maker founded in 1860. Acquisitions accelerated in 2024 and 2025. Tai System was acquired in April 2024, Sancerite in October 2024, and Hokkaido Chitose Ham, Komugiya and Momijido at the end of October 2024. In 2025 the group acquired Agri Mind, The Hamilton, Komex (under Shinmei Holdings), Iwamura Anko Factory, Kino Lab, Aioi Unibio, Furukawa Meat, Beef Place and Shimada Foods, among others. It also took over the "Sobagami" handmade soba and Japanese cuisine business from Masataka Kamiya (Takegami) through a newly established Kamiya Co., Ltd., acquired KEING Corporation (operator of CHICAGO RAMEN in the United States), and formed a capital and business alliance with Cookbiz, a staffing firm for the dining industry. On March 26, 2025, the group adopted a new management philosophy, "Oishii wa, hito ga ikiru chikara" ("Deliciousness is the power that lets people live"), and renewed its corporate logo. In 2026 the group continued to consolidate and expand. On January 7, 2026 it made Super Value a wholly owned subsidiary through a share sale demand, following a tender offer conducted from October 16 to December 1, 2025. Fine Fruits Oogimi took over the mango production business of Sun Hills Okinawa, described as one of the largest mango farms in northern Okinawa. On April 1, 2026 it acquired Tokachi Meat Center, which had inherited Umios's Hokkaido processing plant business through a company split, and on April 15, 2026 it acquired Denko Sekka, which operates an okonomiyaki chain in Hiroshima. The group has stated goals of reaching ¥2 trillion in sales and 100 group companies by 2031.
