Overview

Oest-Gruppe is a German industrial group headquartered in Freudenstadt in the Black Forest, whose holding company is Oest Holding GmbH. It traces its origins to 1915, when Johann Georg Oest founded a factory for technical oils and greases under the name "Georg Oest & Cie. Fabrik für technische Öle und Fette". Over more than a century the business has grown into an internationally active group organised around three main pillars: Oest Lubricants, Oest Energies and Oest Systems. Oest Lubricants (OEST LUBRICANTS GmbH & Co. KG, formerly Georg Oest Mineralölwerk GmbH & Co. KG) develops, produces and distributes lubricants for automotive, industrial, machining and metal-forming applications, complemented by greases, corrosion-protection products and cleaners. It also offers classic-car oils under the founder brand Östol Oldtimer Oils and is one of the few European manufacturers of special fuels, marketed under brands such as Oecomix 2T, Oecokraft 4T, OecoPower D and Storz. The company operates subsidiaries in Switzerland and Asia and is a member of industry associations including VSI and UNITI. Oest Energies (OEST ENERGIES GmbH & Co. KG) was a co-founder of the German Avia fuel-station organisation in 1952 and today runs a network of filling stations in south-west Germany. It also holds stakes in several wind farms in Germany and trades in fuels, heating oil and energy products such as natural gas and electricity for commercial and private customers. Oest Systems (OEST SYSTEMS GmbH & Co. KG) emerged in the 1960s from application technology for paraffin dispersions used in the particleboard industry. It is now a manufacturer of machines for dosing, mixing, pumping and applying glue mixtures and PUR adhesives for the wood, sandwich-panel and construction industries, with an export share of over 80 percent and customers in Europe, Eastern Europe, Russia, Japan and China. The group celebrated its 111th anniversary in 2026 and remains privately held.

History

The Oest-Gruppe traces its roots to 1915, when Johann Georg Oest founded the "Georg Oest & Cie. Fabrik für technische Öle und Fette" in Freudenstadt in the Black Forest. The company's headquarters, administration, research and development, and production have remained in Freudenstadt ever since. In the decades that followed, the mineral-oil works expanded its lubricants business and built subsidiaries in Switzerland and Asia. In 1952, Oest was a co-founder of the German Avia fuel-station organisation, a grouping of medium-sized mineral-oil companies under the Avia brand (Avia itself having been founded in Switzerland in 1927). As a founding shareholder of German Avia, Oest Energies operates a network of filling stations in south-west Germany. It also became a co-shareholder in several wind farms in Germany and trades in fuels, heating oil and energy products such as natural gas and electricity. In the 1960s, Oest Systems emerged from the application technology for paraffin dispersions used in the particleboard industry, developing a dosing machine for producing ready-to-use glue mixtures. Today Oest Systems manufactures machines for dosing, mixing, pumping and applying glue mixtures and PUR adhesives for the wood, sandwich-panel and construction industries, and serves additional markets such as the production of sandwich elements for the caravan, trailer and insulation-board industries. With an export share of over 80 percent, it supplies customers in Europe, Eastern Europe, Russia, Japan and China. The lubricants business, long known as Georg Oest Mineralölwerk GmbH & Co. KG, has been operating under the name Oest Lubricants since 2024. It develops, produces and distributes lubricants for automotive, industrial, machining and metal-forming applications, supplemented by greases, corrosion-protection products and cleaners. It also offers classic-car oils under the founder brand Östol Oldtimer Oils and is one of the few manufacturers of special fuels in Europe, with brands including Oecomix 2T, Oecokraft 4T, OecoPower D and Storz. The mineral-oil works is a member of VSI and UNITI; the chairman of the management board, Alexander A. Klein, sits on the board of the German UNITI association and is a member of BBUG. In 2026 the group celebrated its 111th anniversary, marking the occasion with employees, customers and business partners, including a jubilee concert by the Baden-Württemberg State Police Orchestra as part of the Schwarzwaldmusikfestival at the Kurhaus Freudenstadt. The group continues to present innovations such as the Oest COLOMATE automatic coolant monitoring system and the Oest My Fluid App, and remains privately held under Oest Holding GmbH.
