History

ODDJOB Inc. was established on 27 February 2004 as a yugen-gaisha (limited company) in Tokyo, Japan. It was founded by Shingo Fujii, who had been an early member of the Japanese band Hofdylan and who uses the work name "Shingostar". The company set up its office in Shibuya, Tokyo, at 1-42-6 Tomigaya, and Fujii serves as representative director. From its founding, ODDJOB positioned itself as a creative studio and artist agency working across multiple media under the concept of "KAWAII" (cute and adorable). Its business activities include management and production of artists, design of characters and illustrations, production of music videos and animation, production of commercial and soundtrack music, and planning and production of events. This broad scope allowed the company to serve both independent creators and large corporate clients. One of ODDJOB's early high-profile animation engagements was for Nippon Television's morning programme ZIP!, for which it produced a series of short anime segments. "Ohayou Ninja-tai Gatchaman" ran from 2011 to 2013, followed by "Mazinger ZIP!" (2013–2014), "Ohayou Hakushon Daimaou" (2014–2015) and "Good Morning!!! Doronjo" (2015–2016). These segments brought the studio's character animation to a daily national audience. ODDJOB also produced animation for NHK's long-running song segment "Minna no Uta", including "Mayuge Dance" by Charan-Po-Rantan (broadcast December 2016 and January 2017) and "Koumori Bat wa Good na Shinshi" by Nana Mizuki (broadcast October and November 2019). The studio continued to produce animation for NHK Educational TV, including the series "I Love Mi" (アイラブみー), which has had multiple new episodes broadcast. Other animation credits include "Go! Go! Kitchen Sentai Cookrun", "Jimoto ga Japan", "Ganbare! Choushuu-kun", and "Oshaberi Karaage Ageta-kun". In 2020, ODDJOB co-produced "KING OF PRISM ALL STARS -Prism Show☆Best Ten-" with Tatsunoko Production. The studio has also worked on title-logo art direction for television programmes such as TV Asahi's "Higashi no Hito Sagashi" and "Sand & Kis-My-Ft2 no Ki ni Naru Man", and on character design for drama characters. Alongside broadcast work, ODDJOB has built its own character properties. Its character Ageta-kun has been developed into pop-up shops ("Ageta Shouten") and live events, including "Ageta Fest" held at Mazda Stadium and a one-hour special programme "Ageta THE Golden" broadcast on Hiroshima TV. The studio also produces music videos and event content for comedians such as Razor Ramon RG, and its represented unit "onnacodomo" has handled VJ duties at events. ODDJOB's client list reflects its position between street culture and mainstream media. It has worked with Tokyo streetwear brands and with Japan's national broadcaster NHK, as well as with advertising agencies such as Dentsu and Hakuhodo, music companies such as Sony Music Entertainment, Avex Group Holdings and Universal Music, film companies such as Shochiku and Asmik Ace, and television networks such as TBS, Fuji Television and Nippon Television. The company remains a privately held limited company operating from its Tokyo office.
