Overview

OC Optima (formerly Atrium Optima until 2022) is a shopping centre located on Moldavská cesta in the Juh district of Košice, Slovakia. It is described as the largest shopping centre in Košice and in the whole of eastern Slovakia. Construction took place in 2001–2002 and the centre opened on 29 May 2002. Since then it has undergone several renovations and three extensions, bringing its total leasable area to 53,300 m², which ranks it sixth among the largest shopping centres in Slovakia. The centre is situated between Moldavská cesta and Pri prachárni streets, close to the Červený rak motorway junction where the international expressways E58 and E571 meet. It is accessible by public transport, including bus and tram, as the Košice rapid tram line runs past the centre. OC Optima houses a wide range of retail categories, including fashion, footwear and leather goods, groceries, drugstore and cosmetics, electronics and household goods, home accessories, books and interior goods, pet supplies, children's goods and sports. Its largest tenants include H&M, C&A, Reserved, Billa, Cinemax, Planeo and Steam Factory. The centre also includes a hypermarket, restaurants, services and a seven-screen Cinemax multiplex with a bar. It offers 1,650 parking spaces following its first extension. The centre runs various events and campaigns, such as autograph sessions with HC Košice hockey players, blood donation drives, the European Night of Science, Optima Shopping Days, a wheel of fortune in Atrium Optima, and fashion and food blogs. It also operates the OPTIMA mobile application and a newsletter. Opening hours are 09:00–21:00 for the gallery and 08:00–21:00 for the hypermarket, Monday to Sunday. In terms of environmental and charitable activities, at the end of 2020 Atrium Optima, in cooperation with Tesla, opened the first third-generation Tesla Supercharger electric vehicle charging station in Slovakia on its parking lot, and also launched an Ejoin charging station. During the COVID-19 pandemic, the centre ran a vaccination support campaign called "Ostaňme otvorení" (Let's Stay Open). In March 2022, in cooperation with the Košice city greenery administration, it planted 7 trees in 7 city districts of Košice, including species such as linden and ginkgo.

History

OC Optima, originally known as Atrium Optima until 2022, is the largest shopping centre in Košice and in the whole of eastern Slovakia. It is located in the Juh city district and was built between 2001 and 2002. Its opening took place on 29 May 2002. Since then, Optima has undergone several renovations and three extensions, after which its total leasable area reached 53,300 m², ranking it sixth among the largest shopping centres in Slovakia. The centre is built between Moldavská cesta and Pri prachárni streets, in the immediate vicinity of the Červený rak motorway junction where the two international expressways E58 and E571 meet. The shopping centre is accessible by public transport—bus and tram—because the Košice rapid tram line runs past the centre. The construction of the first extension began in February 2008 and was completed in November of the same year. An area of 16,300 m² was added, which also included a 7-screen multiplex cinema with a bar called Cinemax, and 50 separate units were created. Part of the extension was also a furniture store Kika (today XXXLutz). After this extension, 1,650 parking spaces were created. The second extension began in May 2011 and was completed in November 2011. The aim of the extension was to create a new, attractive, architecturally dominant entrance to the shopping centre and at the same time expand the centre by 14 establishments with a total area of 1,100 m². The third extension of the shopping area consisted of the reconstruction of the huge space left by the closed hypermarket named Hypernova. Reconstruction work began at the end of 2016 and was completed on 1 March 2018. The area has an area of 11,000 m², on which 11 separate units were created. The post of the shopping centre's supermarket was occupied by a significantly larger Billa than is usual for this chain. Among the largest tenants of the shopping centre are H&M, C&A, Reserved, Billa, Cinemax, Planeo and Steam Factory. In terms of environmental and charitable activities, at the end of 2020 the Atrium Optima shopping centre, in cooperation with Tesla, opened the first third-generation Tesla Supercharger electric vehicle charging station in Slovakia on its parking lot. At the same time, it also launched an Ejoin charging station. During the COVID-19 pandemic, the shopping centre launched a campaign to support vaccination called "Ostaňme otvorení" (Let's Stay Open). In March 2022, the centre, in cooperation with the Košice city greenery administration, planted 7 trees in 7 city districts of Košice. Among the trees planted were species such as linden and ginkgo.
