Overview
The Austrian Motorsport Federation (AMF), originally known as the Oberste Nationale Sportkommission für den Kraftfahrsport in Österreich and later as the Oberste Nationale Sportkommission für den Motorsport (OSK), is the national governing body for automobile, kart and motorcycle sport in Austria. It is the successor organisation to the OSK and represents Austrian motorsport interests within the Fédération Internationale de l'Automobile (FIA) and the Fédération Internationale de Motocyclisme (FIM), as well as within the European FIM-Europe (FIME). Within the FIA the AMF holds the status of an ASN (Autorité Sportive Nationale), and within the FIM it holds the status of an FMN (Fédération Motocyclisme National). These positions authorise the AMF to officially regulate automobile, kart and motorcycle sport in Austria. The federation is responsible for implementing and monitoring international sporting regulations and for issuing licences, including international FIA and FIM licences for its national licence holders. It organises the AMF championships, the Austrian national championships, national track inspections and the national event calendar. It also oversees sporting regulations, their enforcement and the associated sports jurisdiction, and its examination commission is responsible for the training of sports officials such as stewards. The AMF is structured around seven regional sports commissions covering Vienna/Lower Austria/Burgenland, Tyrol, Carinthia, Upper Austria, Salzburg, Styria and Vorarlberg. It is closely linked to the ÖAMTC, Austria's largest motoring club, whose general assembly decided in June 2016 to rename the OSK as the Austrian Motorsport Federation with effect from the turn of the year 2016/2017. The organisation communicates with its members and the public through its website, austria-motorsport.at, which publishes news on Austrian motorsport events and championships.
History
The organisation was originally established as the Oberste Nationale Sportkommission für den Kraftfahrsport in Österreich, the supreme national sports commission for motoring sport in Austria. In this role it acted as the national sporting authority for automobile and motorcycle competition in the country. Over time it became known as the Oberste Nationale Sportkommission für den Motorsport (OSK), reflecting its broader remit across motorsport disciplines. As the national authority, the OSK was affiliated with the Fédération Internationale de l'Automobile (FIA) and the Fédération Internationale de Motocyclisme (FIM), and through them with the European body FIM-Europe (FIME). These affiliations gave it the right to regulate automobile, kart and motorcycle sport in Austria and to issue international licences to Austrian competitors and officials. In June 2016 the general assembly of the ÖAMTC, Austria's largest motoring club, decided to rename the Oberste Nationale Sportkommission für den Motorsport (OSK) as the Austrian Motorsport Federation (AMF), with effect from the turn of the year 2016/2017. The renamed federation continued the OSK's functions as the FIA's ASN and the FIM's FMN for Austria, and it remains responsible for the AMF championships, the Austrian national championships, national track inspections, the national event calendar, sporting regulations and their enforcement, sports jurisdiction, and the training of sports officials such as stewards. It operates through seven regional sports commissions covering Vienna/Lower Austria/Burgenland, Tyrol, Carinthia, Upper Austria, Salzburg, Styria and Vorarlberg.
