Libín Shopping Center

Obchodní centrum Libín, also known as Prior or OD Prior, is a department store and shopping center located in the center of Prachatice, Czech Republic, at the intersection of Vodňanská and Zvolenská streets on Malé náměstí. It was built between 1978 and 1985 as a modern shopping center of its era. The decision to demolish the original block of houses on the site was made in 1975, and demolition work was carried out in the autumn of the same year. Its facade, with slanted projecting sections clad in ceramic tiles, was intended to evoke the architectural elements of the Prachatice Dolní brána (Lower Gate). The building structurally connected to the line of panel apartment buildings on Vodňanská Street and was divided into a series of successive rectangles. In front of the department store, which was operated by the company Prior, a sundial was installed that was the largest in the territory of then-Czechoslovakia at the time. In 1999, the public space near the building was reconstructed, including the replacement of public greenery and the planting of new trees. Today the store operates under the PRIOR brand as PRIOR Prachatice, run by PRIOR ČESKÁ REPUBLIKA s.r.o. It offers a range of goods across its sales floor, including household goods, stationery and school and office supplies, home decorations and souvenirs, footwear, leather goods, underwear, clothing and upholstery fabrics, home textiles such as bedding, kitchen textiles and bathroom ranges, quilted products including pillows and duvets, and textile haberdashery.
