Overview

O. M Industry Co., Ltd. (オーエム工業株式会社) is a Japanese company specializing in plating and surface-treatment technologies, headquartered in Suminoe-ku, Osaka. Its business spans hot-dip galvanizing, phosphate coating treatments marketed under the OMZP and OMZP-2 names, various painting processes, and the fabrication of steel structures. The company positions its surface-treatment expertise as contributing to everyday life, and it serves large-scale infrastructure and construction applications where corrosion resistance and long-term durability are critical. The company traces its origins to November 1949 (Showa 24), when it was founded in Osaka's Konohana-ku as a plating business. It was originally named Osaka Mekki Co., Ltd. (大阪鍍金株式会社) and was renamed O. M Industry Co., Ltd. in November 1974 (Showa 49). Over the decades it established and consolidated a series of plants in the Osaka area, including the Kizugawa, Sumiyoshi, Sakai, Senboku, Takaishi and Izumiotsu works, and it added a steel-structure division in 1983 (Showa 58) on the former Sakuragawa plant site. That division handles the fabrication of steel structures as well as the design, construction and technical consulting for plating plants. O. M Industry's core offerings include hot-dip galvanizing, which the company describes as an economical way to achieve long-term rust prevention with excellent corrosion resistance and durability; OMZP (zinc phosphate treatment), which forms a stable grey chemical conversion coating on hot-dip galvanized steel products for design-oriented finishes; and OMZP-2, a method that forms zinc phosphate crystals on the friction surfaces of hot-dip galvanized high-strength bolts to improve the slip coefficient. The company also provides various painting services, from powder coating of large structures to solvent-based coatings, and full steel-structure fabrication from design and material procurement through processing, surface treatment, painting and on-site installation. O. M Industry operates from its headquarters and main Suminoe plant, together with the Senboku and Takaishi plants. It holds JIS certifications for its main and Senboku plants and is licensed as a general construction business by the Osaka Prefectural Governor for steel structures, painting and machinery installation. The company is led by President Yoshihiro Takamatsu (髙松良行). It remains a private, family- and management-run enterprise focused on the Japanese market, with a group-company structure supporting its operations.

History

O. M Industry Co., Ltd. was founded in November 1949 (Showa 24) in Osaka, at 151, Denpo-cho Minami 2-chome, Konohana-ku, under the name Osaka Mekki Co., Ltd. (大阪鍍金株式会社). In June 1951 (Showa 26) the head office and plant were moved to Sakuragawa in Naniwa-ku, Osaka. A new Kizugawa plant was established in April 1956 (Showa 31), and in April 1960 (Showa 35) the Sumiyoshi plant (steel pipe plant) was opened in Suminoe-ku, which became the current main plant. The Sakai plant began operation in April 1965 (Showa 40). In July 1966 (Showa 41) a large special-products plant was added at the Sumiyoshi site and the Kizugawa plant was closed. The head office was relocated to its current location in June 1969 (Showa 44). In November 1974 (Showa 49) the company changed its name from Osaka Mekki Co., Ltd. to O. M Industry Co., Ltd. (オーエム工業株式会社). The main plant received JIS certification in May 1976 (Showa 51), and the Sakuragawa plant was closed in July 1976. The Senboku plant was established in February 1983 (Showa 58), and in September 1983 a steel-structure division was set up on the former Sakuragawa plant site, specializing in the fabrication of steel structures, the design and construction of plating plants, and technical consulting. The Senboku plant obtained JIS certification in August 1985 (Showa 60). In the late 1980s and early 1990s the company invested in chemical conversion and coating equipment: a chemical conversion facility was added at the main plant in October 1987 (Showa 62), a special coating apparatus in November 1987, a sealed small special-products automatic plating unit in December 1989 (Heisei 1), a sealed large special-products automatic plating unit in July 1991 (Heisei 3), and a sealed small special-products automatic plating unit at the Senboku plant in April 1992. A surface-treatment SP plant with an automatic electrostatic coating line was established in December 1992, and the Sakai plant was closed in March 1993. In August 1993 the company obtained a construction business license from the Osaka Prefectural Governor (general construction: steel structures, painting, machinery and equipment installation). The SP plant was moved to the main plant in May 1995, and in April 1996 the company received Ministry of Construction Notification No. 1103 certification. The Takaishi plant was established in April 1998 (Heisei 10), relocating from the Sakuragawa steel-structure plant, and the Senboku plant added an office and welfare building in August 1998. The Izumiotsu plant began operation in January 1999, and the Takaishi plant was expanded in April 2000. A third Takaishi yard was added in December 2004, and in May 2007 the company obtained JIS certification under the new JIS mark system (certification number JQ0507007). The Izumiotsu plant was closed in March 2015, and a fourth Takaishi warehouse was established in April 2020 (Reiwa 2). Today the company operates its headquarters and main Suminoe plant, the Senboku plant and the Takaishi plant, providing hot-dip galvanizing, phosphate treatments, painting and steel-structure fabrication.
