Overview

NX NP Logistics Co., Ltd. (NX・NPロジスティクス株式会社) is a Japanese comprehensive logistics company headquartered in Settsu, Osaka, specializing in electronics and home-appliance logistics. It is part of the NX Group under NIPPON EXPRESS HOLDINGS, Inc., and remains a joint venture in which Panasonic Holdings Corporation still holds roughly 30% of the shares. The company traces its origins to 1966, when it was spun off from Matsushita Kōsan as Matsushita Sōko (松下倉庫株式会社); in 1977 it was re-established as the Matsushita Electric Group's comprehensive logistics company. It became a wholly owned subsidiary of Matsushita Electric Industrial (now Panasonic Holdings) in 2000, and was renamed Panasonic Logistics in 2008. In 2013 Nippon Express and Panasonic agreed that Nippon Express would acquire 66.6% of the company, and the transfer completed on 20 January 2014, when the firm joined the Nippon Express Group and was renamed Nittsu Panasonic Logistics. On 13 December 2019, following the expiry of the brand license agreement, it became Nittsu NP Logistics, with "NP" standing for "Next generation Progress." On 1 January 2022, coinciding with Nippon Express's transition to a holding-company structure and the introduction of the group brand "NX," it adopted its current name, NX NP Logistics. In March 2022 it became a subsidiary of NIPPON EXPRESS HOLDINGS. The company's core strength is electronics logistics infrastructure. It operates seven large product logistics centers, roughly 100 relay depots nationwide, and its own delivery network of about 800 routes, delivering to approximately 40,000 destinations across Japan. It also serves about 120 mass-retailer logistics centers and provides factory-internal logistics solutions, positioning itself as a partner that supports customers' supply chains from overseas and domestic factories to end users. Its service lines include home-appliance logistics, consolidated mass-retailer distribution center operation, and in-factory logistics solutions. NX NP Logistics promotes a distinctive quality philosophy it calls "Kōbeka" (神戸化®), applying manufacturing-style management (5S + Smile) to logistics sites to maximize safety, quality, and efficiency, with more than 10,000 improvement activities per year. The company has been recognized for these efforts, including winning the "Best Logistics Improvement Award" at the All-Japan Logistics Improvement Case Conference 2026 and being named a Health Management Excellent Corporation 2026 (large-company category). In January 2025, the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism's truck and logistics shipper special measures office issued a recommendation to the company concerning long waiting times for trucks.

History

The company's roots lie in the Matsushita (Panasonic) group. In 1966 it was spun off from Matsushita Kōsan and established as Matsushita Sōko Co., Ltd. (松下倉庫株式会社) with capital of 150 million yen. In May 1977 it was newly launched as Matsushita Logistics Warehouse Co., Ltd. (松下物流倉庫株式会社), the comprehensive logistics company of the Matsushita Electric group, through a merger with the National Merchandise Center. In March 1981 it established Pana Logistics Service Co., Ltd. as an affiliate, and in April 1988 it set up Pana Logistics Service Singapore (PLS). In January 1990 it merged with Pana Logistics Service to become Matsushita Logistics Co., Ltd. (松下物流株式会社). Further expansion followed in the 1990s: ML Service Co., Ltd. was established in January 1995, M.I Logistics (MIL) was set up as a joint venture in October 1995, and eight regional Matsushita LM companies were established in November 1997. In September 2000 the company became a wholly owned subsidiary of Matsushita Electric Industrial. In October 2001 it merged with the eight regional Matsushita LM companies to form Matsushita Logistics Co., Ltd. In October 2008 it changed its name to Panasonic Logistics Co., Ltd. and merged with its affiliate Panasonic Logistics Service Japan (formerly ML Service). On 28 March 2013, Nippon Express and Panasonic announced agreement for Nippon Express to acquire 66.6% of the company's shares and make it a subsidiary, with Panasonic aiming to improve logistics efficiency by leveraging Nippon Express's overseas network and domestic logistics infrastructure. The share acquisition completed on 20 January 2014, when the company joined the Nippon Express Group and was renamed Nittsu Panasonic Logistics Co., Ltd. On 13 December 2019, with the brand license agreement expiring, it became Nittsu NP Logistics Co., Ltd.; the "NP" in the name derives from "Next generation Progress," signifying a logistics company for the next generation. On 1 January 2022, following Nippon Express's transition to a holding-company structure via a sole-share transfer and the introduction of the group brand "NX," the company changed its name again to NX NP Logistics Co., Ltd. In March 2022, as a result of the share transfer, it became a subsidiary of NIPPON EXPRESS HOLDINGS, the parent company of Nippon Express. Today it operates as an electronics-logistics specialist within the NX Group, with Panasonic still holding roughly 30% of its shares, making it a joint venture between the two groups.
