Overview
Nox Group, commonly branded as nox, is a European courier, express and parcel (CEP) logistics provider specialising in night-express deliveries. Its core proposition is to collect shipments from business customers until the early evening and deliver them before the start of the next working day — optionally before 8:00, 7:00 or 6:00 a.m. — without size or weight restrictions. According to the company, around 85% of shipments reach their destination before 6 a.m. and are deposited at individually agreed locations such as a service technician's car boot or directly at the workplace. The company traces its origins to 1964, when Munich transport entrepreneur Heinz Harry Kutzner founded the Kutzner Nachtexpress Termindienst, pioneering the night-express concept in Germany. Over the following decades the business passed through several owners, including TPG (the Dutch postal group), TNT and a private-equity fund, before being acquired by the French logistics provider Groupe Sterne in 2022. Since 2024 the national companies have operated under the unified nox Germany, nox Austria, nox Netherlands and nox Belgium names. Nox serves more than 80 depots in France, Germany, Belgium and the Netherlands and describes its network as the most powerful night-express network in Europe, complemented by cooperation partners. In Germany alone it operates over 20 depots with around 1,000 employees. Its core industries are automotive, OEM, commercial vehicles, construction machinery and agriculture, with tailored solutions for tyres, automotive glass, healthcare and agricultural machinery. Customers entrust the company with more than 76,000 keys and lock codes for access to buildings, car boots and other agreed drop-off points. Nox is part of Groupe Sterne, a French market leader in time-critical logistics founded in 1972; together they employ around 2,100 people and serve 6,000 senders and 100,000 recipients across Europe.
History
The history of nox begins in 1964, when Munich transport entrepreneur Heinz Harry Kutzner founded the Kutzner Nachtexpress Termindienst. To differentiate himself from competitors, Kutzner offered customers delivery before the start of the working day — the idea of the night express was born. In 1992 the company was renamed NET Nachtexpress Termindienst. In 1993 NET expanded into Belgium, the Netherlands, Luxembourg and Denmark, and three years later it was acquired by TPG, the Dutch postal group. In parallel, in 1984 Elisabeth and Hans-Gert Kierdorf founded Nacht Verteiler Service (NVS), which also took up the night-express idea. NVS was initially acquired by Jet Services SA, Lyon, and at the end of 1998 TPG also took over NVS, renaming it In-Night Express GmbH & Co. KG. In 2002 the systems of NET and NVS were merged into a single nationwide network. In 2003 the company became a member of the new European network European In-Night Express. In the following years it was renamed TNT Logistics Innight Holding GmbH (2005) and the TNT night-express division was reorganised (2006), with the entire Innight business falling under the German TNT Express Business Unit, also part of TPG. A further renaming to TNT Innight GmbH & Co. KG followed in 2006, and a year later Innight became an independent business unit within the TNT Group. In 2016 TNT Express separated from Innight and sold the business unit to the investment fund SSVP III (Special Situations Venture Partners), managed by the private-equity firm Orlando Management AG. Two weeks after the acquisition, TNT Innight became Innight Express Germany GmbH, operating under the brand name nox NachtExpress. With effect from 1 February 2017, nox took over all activities of the German subsidiary CAT LC from the French Groupe CAT. In 2022 nox NachtExpress was sold to the French service provider Groupe Sterne. Since 2024 the national companies have operated uniformly as nox Germany, nox Austria, nox Netherlands and nox Belgium. The company has been active throughout Europe since 1993, with its own national companies in Germany, France, Austria and the Benelux countries, plus a network of cooperation partners. In November 2023 it joined the Bundesverband Paket- und Expresslogistik e.V. (BPEX). In May 2024 it became a member of the Allianz für Sicherheit in der Wirtschaft West e.V. (ASW West) and TAPA EMEA, and in October 2024 it signed the UN Global Compact.
