Overview

NOVAC CO., LTD. (株式会社ノバック) is a Japanese general contractor headquartered in Himeji, Hyogo Prefecture, with a Tokyo head office serving as its eastern command center. The company operates two main business segments: civil engineering centered on public works, and building construction centered on private-sector projects. Its civil engineering work covers roads, bridges, dams and tunnels, while its building and renewal work spans condominiums, hospitals, schools, factories and commercial facilities across Japan. The company was founded in April 1965 in Himeji as Otani Construction Co., Ltd. (大谷建設株式会社) with capital of 1.5 million yen, initially for residential land development, building and leisure facility land development. It obtained its Hyogo Prefecture construction business registration in July 1965 and expanded steadily, opening an Osaka office in 1972, receiving national construction minister permission in 1974, and relocating its head office within Himeji in 1978 and 1987. In 2003 it changed its name to NOVAC CO., LTD. and took over the civil engineering and building businesses of Marubeni Construction Co., Ltd., establishing branches in Hokkaido, Tohoku, Niigata, Tokyo, Yokohama, Shikoku and Kyushu. It listed on the Second Section of the Tokyo Stock Exchange in March 2022 and moved to the Standard Market in April 2022 following the exchange's market restructuring. NOVAC positions itself as a balanced mid-tier general contractor whose civil engineering segment is almost entirely public works while its building segment focuses on private-sector projects, a mix intended to minimize the impact of economic and social fluctuations. It emphasizes technical strength across both civil engineering and building fields, with a high number of qualified engineers, and has obtained ISO 9001, ISO 14001 and ISO 45001 certifications. In February 2025 it acquired all shares of TOMTEN Co., Ltd., making it a subsidiary. The company marked its 60th anniversary in April 2025 and pursues a medium-term vision called "NOVAC VISION" targeting the fiscal year ending April 2027, focused on raising brand recognition, expanding its business area, strengthening governance, sustainability, quality and technology, and advancing digital transformation.
